Proposition 30: Struggle To Enroll In Colleges
Proposition 30 For the last couple of years, students have been struggling to enroll in college courses and colleges have been struggling with offering more courses due to school budget cuts. Statistics showed that since 2007, class sections have dropped about 24% and enrollment decreased according to L.A Times. More than 470,000 students started the semester on the waiting list due to the insufficient number of courses the colleges had to offer due to the major budget cuts. Also many colleges had to cut off summer and winter sessions due to the insufficient funds making it harder for students to finish faster. Since Proposition 30 was passed, there has been progress in colleges through out California. Colleges through out California

My proposal is to make it illegal for states to charge students from other states more money for college tuition (i.e. out of state tuition). One of the benefits would be providing more educational and equal opportunities for all people. Also it would benefit our economy by creating more fairly equally educated citizens for jobs. With this proposal it would be easier for people to go to a college that is specific to what they want to do, with less cost. It will definitely benefit families that plan on sending more kids off to college.…

The number of African American students who attend college is steadily rising each academic school year, and has more than doubled in the past thirty years. Historically Black Colleges and Universities are improving their facilities, staff, and recruitment techniques to reinforce their ability to offer a quality education to prospective students. But even with said improvement, several state legislatures are cutting their higher education budgets. This is prompting institutions in some states to merge, such as Savannah State University and Atlantic State University in Georgia. Also as a result of the recession, minority students are finding themselves in more of a bind to pay tuition costs, as it is getting harder to take out both subsidized and unsubsidized loans. In future political administrations we could possibly see the cutting of federally funded programs such as PELL and MTAG which could potentially leave many students without any means of paying for college.…

Born and raised here in the U.S. many students, and parents for that matter, are currently struggling with the bills, loans, and the stress of trying to stabilize a healthy future for themselves by pursuing an education. When a law like the California Dream Act is passed, it makes those who have done nothing but follow the rules of our legal system, feel as if the right as a legal citizen is being pushed aside. The money to fund the education of these illegal immigrants has to come from somewhere, causing a bigger whole to burn in tax payer’s pocket; when the money can easily go elsewhere to legal students in dire need of it. The state of California has always portrayed itself as the “free” state and allowed equal opportunity to everyone, to the point where now legal citizenship does not seem as if it really matters anymore. The California Dream Act may seem as if it is the answer to our educational system but when better dissected we see that with limited funding, we are defying the rights of legal citizens by providing for the education of the undocumented immigrants and bearing the expense of increased taxes and tuition.…

For certain colleges do not offer what students need specifically for their academic path at the time they are available; do not have them at all. This causes students to “[Take] longer, since they register for fewer courses then they need to stay on track,” which illustrates the difficulty with managing the students’ courses and daily lives (Marcus 144). In which, affects mostly the students who are working part-time jobs, and work schedules are not flexible; making them unavailable for classes. Having to go extra years in college just feeds the students’ stress.…

The main reason for college dropout seems to be because of financial issues. At the forefront of reasons for college dropout is the cost—and not just the cost of tuition, but the costs of books, materials, transportation, and housing. Forty-eight percent of college students drop out because they cannot afford tuition. Most students do not have scholarships to cover at least half of their tuition. A study surveyed dropouts and about 7 in 10 of the dropouts said they had no scholarship or loan aid. Some college students dropout of school is because they do not have the help from parents or relatives. Among student dropouts, nearly 6 in 10 got no help from their parents in paying…
