The Dress Code Debate Dress codes have been the center of debates in schools for many years, and it probably will continue to be that way. Many will claim that dress codes are usually discriminating against one gender or one ethnicity. For example, the main people who are called out for inappropriate dress code are girls. Also, rules like “no gangster attire” are implied to be for African Americans. The main argument, however, for people who support dress codes is that it allows students to be prepared for their future careers. How students dress determines their success. Colleges that have a dress code usually implement that dress code so students know how they must dress for interviews and real world jobs, but over the years this objective has changed. Many Universities are implementing this idea of dressing for success, but there are some discrepancies. When looking at different universities all of them have different rules that make them unique. Colleges like Benedict and Bob Jones have strict dress codes, while colleges like Louisburg allow more freedom.
