Since they are receiving an award just for partaking in an activity, they will begin to have an entitled attitude and expect that they will always be handled with special treatment. The children are being taught that doing their minimal is sufficient, which is not true. They should be trying their best to succeed, but they will stop trying once they realize that they are being praised for everything they do. In the article, “Losing is Good for You,” it states, “Having studied recent increases in narcissism and entitlement among college students, she warns that when living rooms are filled with participation trophies, it’s part of a larger cultural message: to succeed, you just have to show up” (Ashley Merryman). This statement shows how this generation is growing up with a sense of entitlement and believes that everything will come easy to them. Although, that is not the case.
