Protecting Stereotypes In College Campuses

What interested me about this topic is that a stereotype is a fixed belief about particular groups in society based on class, gender ethnic group. This affects social change because we are being judged based on sex, gender, and physical ability. For example in society woman are being misjudged based on their ability to accomplish tasks Moreover, Society categorizes women to be incapable of managing a male position in the workforce because of the lack of dominance. For example, women face many challenges obtaining higher positions in the workforce because they are looked at as weak based on being too emotional Gender stereotypes are based on behaviors that are based on cultural beliefs and traits to show what is normal for feminine and
masculine. The author conducted an experiment that used African students in order to find an intervention that can reduce stereotype threat in college campuses.
In the experiment there were two stereotypes conducted and they are self-target stereotype and group target stereotype Also, the stereotypes focus on the threat and manipulation that can affect a group. Therefore, the study focus on protecting the college students from the negativity of stereotypes. The interventions focused on finding a better solution to avoid being stereotyped. The authors concluded that the role model intervention of having a group as a target had a higher result than the no intervention control based on self as a target. The role model intervention helps protect against group as a target by avoiding stereotype threat. Also, as a group they will have support and create an alliance to fight against stereotypes. The conclusion fits into the field of research in physiology because gender stereotypes influence negative behavior and the sense of worth of individuals.Thereforen Psychology is based on the study of mind and behavior of a particular group As a result, a physiologist would examine gender basis and gender prejudice against certain
groups.
