J.T.’s situation has caused her to be very isolated from others in her community which has negatively impacted her social life. She feels embarrassed and humiliated to have conversations with people because of the video. According to Shedler (2011), the psychodynamic approach helps patient free themselves from the past experience and live more fully in the present. This activity helps J.T. forget video and encourages her to work on her confidence to have a good social interaction with people to meet her social-emotional needs.
Before the activity, having the group members to introduce themselves allow the members to gain an understanding of the identity of the group. Having the group split up into pairs help reduce anxiety about speaking up in front of the group. Role playing helps her to build up her confidence to socially interact with other group members which in turn help her feel more confident in engaging with her friends at church. The psychodynamic approach helps the clients to share their feedbacks and express themselves once the activity is completed (Shedler, 2011). Providing feedback helps J.T. and other members develop insight and empathy as well as self-confidence to talk to
