Puerto Rico Paradise Vacation

The children of Puerto Rico inspired me to achieve mine goals in life. I know that sounds confusing since I am not of Hispanic decent, so let me explain. The summer of sophomore year, I traveled on a mission trip to Puerto Rico with my school. I visioned the trip as a paradise vacation. However, I was wrong. Though I encountered many experiences, there is one that I will never forget. After long hours of working in the community, we ended the day by visiting a boys’ orphanage for mentally and physically disabled. Upon arrival, the kids were lined up at the gate waving and smiling at us ready to give us hugs even though they did not know us at all. While at the orphanage, a man outside was selling cakes and we decided to buy some for the boys.
We gave the cake to the students. The boys were going around trying to give us back the cakes; they did not understand that it was for them to keep. The students giving the cake back to us made me realize what pure-hearted people are. At that moment, I realized I want to continue helping people. Therefore, I do not want a corporate job in which I rarely get to interact with others and make a difference in the world. Last but not the least, those boys at the orphanage inspire me every day to continue working towards my goal to become a nurse so that I can help people for the rest of my life.
