Pyrmont-Ultimo is one of the fastest growing suburbs in Sydney. Over the past century it has demonstrated changes as a result of urban decay and renewal, urban consolidation and most recently spatial exclusion. These urban dynamics are dominant in Pyrmont Ultimo and have contributed to the changing morphology of that area.…
The Sydney suburbs of Pyrmont and ultimo are located on a peninsula on the western side of darling harbor. In earlier days the two suburbs ran along Union Street. Now the Pyrmont-Ultimo peninsula is a long strip of land known by locals that it is ‘into the deep waters of Sydney Harbour’. Beginning in the early 1800s the Pyrmont-Ultimo area was once occupied by many ‘blue-collar’ workers generally known as manual labour workers, the area was surrounded by industrial areas or the waterfronts. Since then there has occurred significant gentrification of old industrial sites and decayed buildings occurring in the Pyrmont- Ultimo peninsula, with the old buildings and sites being transformed into residential, commercial and community sites. As…
Furthermore, different self-contained cities that resulted suburbanized are presented as examples, always looking back at great architectural achievements as role models. Additionally, it is worth mentioning that through the development of cars, industries started to be pushed out to the peripheries of the cities since the means to get to work improved. 3. What are the stakes (why is this important for architecture)?…
demographics and geographical features of the area by using our fieldwork booklet to assist our studies of the Pyrmont…
Q1. Although being the most centralised zones in a city, the central business district and the inner-mixed zone can be compared and contrasted in terms of land use characteristics and functions. Due to their high accessibility, land value and centripetal forces, these zones share functions that both draw the public and commercial interest into them, and create competition for prime land between business and some residential functions. To compare both zones, the accessibility of the CBD and the IMZ is a major similarity as all major freeways like the Mitchell, Graham Farmer and Kwinana run through these zones, and the Albany and Stirling Highways must pass through here to reach the CBD, hence making both zones highly accessible.…

This project relies on the use of funding from City and County grants, along with private investors. In any project, there runs the risk of investors pulling out. We face the same risk as that of our investors who have no legal obligation to continue investing into our project thus Far all of our progress has satisfied the needs of the investors. If we were to lose any of our investors, we have a response plan ready to put in place, this plan consist of reducing the amount of Computers, televisions, and staff. We will also be required to reduce the quality of playground equipment, still keeping with in standards, just a lower quality brand who still meets all safety regulations.…
In Pyrmont, high rise buildings are everywhere and they are still being built continuously, even though the area is packed with buildings and the spaces between the buildings are very narrow. My focus questions relating to the spatial dimension concentrates on why the area is so dense and why high rise buildings were built. The results I have acquired are from local newspapers, which had reported about the history of Pyrmont and how it started developing into a high rise area, and from my observations of walking past the high rise building area.…
This alone can lead to an even more so car-dependent culture that presents a number of negative environmental impacts. Areas such as Helensvale and Coomera that offer low-density housing are not in proximity to the rail stations and the majority of employment on the Gold Coast is in places near Surfers Paradise leading to the fostering of a car-dependent culture. To manage its ever growing populations, the city of the Gold Coast should consider initiatives such as urban consolidation. The revitalisation of pre-existing buildings into higher-density housing could help minimise urban…
With all of the problems that lead from Sydney’s increasing population, I can’t view it as anything except bad. If Sydney can find a way to address all these problems then hopefully we can cope as a city. In the end though, we can’t do anything to stop this ever-growing city. Only if we find ways to improve these problems then can we at least make it more manageable for the people. I then view Sydney’s future to be in store for major…

Before, mixed use building was invented by one of the modernist architect Le Corbusier to separate industrial zoning that produced pollution and to protected public health and residential property value in Paris. (Wikipedia.org). In today’s urban and suburban development, mixed-use development is becoming increasingly essential for the creation of an attractive and sustainable environment that promotes economic vitality, social equity and environmental quality. (Flynn, L, 2003). In urban areas, has a trend to be vertical, with retail, office, and residential loaded to maximize density. In suburban areas, broader and horizontal developments in the form of town centres developments are successful. The designers and developers all over the world attribute the motivation behind such development schemes to the public’s desire for a community.…
