Qualcomm Incorporated is a global semiconductor company that develops designs, manufactures and markets digital wireless telecommunications products and services based on a digital technology called CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) which is a method of transmitting information securely over radio frequencies. It has a broad portfolio of offerings thereby proving to be a competitive advantage. Qualcomm 's ideas and inventions are helping to connect people to information, entertainment and one another. Its patented technology forms the basis for the global wireless platforms. Qualcomm Inc. is divided into several business units – QTL (Qualcomm Technology License), QCT (Qualcomm CDMA Technology), and QWS (Qualcomm Wireless System). QTL generates fees and royalties from manufacturer’s use of CDMA technology. QCT is a leading developer of CDMA integrated circuits, system software and tools for wireless device. QWS provides mobile communications and logistics management systems & services to Transportation industry through its Omni TRACS system. (Qualcomm.com, 2013)
Strategic Plans are those plans that apply to the entire organization and establish the organization’s overall goals. These are broad. Strategic plans are usually long term (beyond 3 years), directional (flexible), single use plans (specifically designed to meet the needs of a unique situation). One goal that can be accomplished through strategic plan is Entry into Asian telecommunication market specifically in China & India because these two markets have population of approximately 2.3 billion people combines which almost makes about 40% of the world. Another factor attracting foreign firms to China & India is the low cost of labor. The reason was the size of these emerging Asian markets. The CIA estimated that China is
