Good morning/afternoon my name is_______, and today I will be talking to you about equality and the different perceptions we all have of people in this world today. Everyone is equal, but not all of us are treated equally. You are probably told that everyone in society is equal; people aren't equal in this civilisation because of things like racism, sexism, and homophobia.
People of all ages, race and abilities should be treated the same. There is no reason to put others down because they are different. No one is the same and it isn't fair to point out their noticeable weaknesses just because yours aren't visible.
Why is it that in this day and age is it still ok to be racist? We the younger generation have the chance to stop racism and to accept everyone as equals. People like Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King junior, Gandhi and Nelson Mandela all fought for the same thing, equality. We the younger generation should come together and strive for equality, yet we have done nothing to overcome this problem. The social and racial differences are the fault lines in our communities. We all want to be able to feel that we are accepted for who we are, wherever we are.
People move to different places all over the world, for better opportunities and a better life. Imagine yourself just moving into a foreign country in the hope of a better future and acceptance, but instead you are abused both verbally and physically because of minor differences such as your nationality, your facial features or your accent.
