H&F DESCRIPTION

Ned Kelly was an Irishman born in Australia in 1854. The son of a convict Ned and his family have always been put under the microscope. This lead to Ned being wrongly imprisoned and spending 3 behind bars. When he got out his mother was imprisoned so he and the Kelly Gang sort justice for all Irish immigrants who were being treated wrong by the Victorian Police. Through out his time Kelly became an outlaw as well as a beacon of hope for many. In 1880 Kelly was executed by being hung.

Examples of this kind of admiration shows up many a times in his tales but one that I think shows this really well is in the Film Adaptation of his life ‘Ned Kelly’ which was directed by Gregor Jordan in 2003. When Ned had been wounded in his last stand and he was being patched up in the train infirmary we see two young boys jumping up and down in excitement saying “ Is that Ned Kelly” this shows us that Ned was admired by people of all ages young and old. In terms of admiration for his courage people admired him for standing up to the Victorian Police, they admired him because he was willing to rise up and fight the power even if the power would have him imprisoned for it. His will to see the equality for all people in Victoria, Irish and English alike was one of the reason that before his death 30,000 names signed a petition to give him a reprieve for his actions. Unfortunately he was still hung at age …show more content…
When he was just 11 years old Ned Kelly only just a scrawny little boy dove into Hughes Creek and hauled up Richard Shelton and saved him from drowning. A ceremony was later held to mark Ned’s heroic act and he was presented with a Green sash, by Richard Shelton’s parents and family. Even as a boy Ned showed qualities of being a hero his ‘don’t think twice’ kind of attitude is one of the reasons he is controversially regarded as one of Australia’s greatest Heroes.

A person with noble qualities

People also admired Ned because they saw qualities in him that they wanted. They saw that he was a larrikin, a boisterous young man, often uncultivated but was good hearted.
They saw how he was loyal to the bone to those who supported him and his family, for example when he paid those people who had family members in jail because they kept their mouths shut about him. He was fearless and charismatic, with often little regard for his own life. Above all he was an underdog, he represented the people in the struggle, he embodied the suffering of everyone and he was the beacon of hope and freedom from oppression.

A good man; bad man and a split figure of public opinion. Ned was a voice for the people although went about his message the completely wrong way by damaging the power of authority and making them look like chumps. Ned Kelly is known now as the hero of the bush Australian outback although his crimes even now would still be considered unnecessary and against the morals of our society. Such famous quotes of his are used throughout Australia to symbolise determination and strength. Ned Kelly died for what he believed in and if that doesn’t show courage I don’t know what does. In my opinion he is an ignorant selfless hero. “ I fear it as little as to drink out of a cup of tea. “If my lips teach the public that men are made mas by bad treatment and id the police taught that they may exasperate to madness men they persecute and ill treat, my life will not be entirely thrown away.” In the words of Ned before his brutal beating to death “such is life” …. What comes to mind when envisioning the aspects of a hero? An innovator? A fearless fighter? While those elements can be true, loyal, dauntless and determined are more suitable to describe Norman Bethune. This Canadian doctor was born in Gravenhurst Ontario. He was idolized by citizens all over the country for his dedication and endless commitment towards his patients. During the Spanish Civil War, nearly 2000 Canadians travelled to Spain to fight for the Republic, and as a result, almost half didn’t return to their families back home. The dictionary says that a hero is a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. This definition couldn’t possibly describe Fredrick Douglas, Jim, and Huckleberry Finn any better. While of course, these three are certainly not the first that come to mind when thinking of heroes, they all completely fit the bill. Douglas is a hero because of his journey out of slavery and because of his moral development, and how his story affected nations. While Huck and Jim go through a similar journey by escaping from the slavery of society, and through their moral developments, they started difficult, but important, conversations about race and prejudice at the time. However, as they compare, they are all…

A “hero” is defined as a person admired or idealized for their courage or noble qualities. To me, a hero is someone who will fight against the odds for what they believe is right, sometimes making a personal sacrafise for the benefits of others. In the book, the Scarlett Letter, author Nathaniel Hawthorne depicts main character Hester Prynne as the hero. Although it may be true that Hester commits the sin of adultery, we must look beyond that and on to how this sin not only beneficial to Hester, but the town as a whole.…
