In this commencement speech the authors purpose is to inform the graduates on life. He is telling them that this chapter of their life is now over and it is time to move on. What is next? Fox is up there preaching to the students about what it is like to be an adult and go through the “day to day” life. We all experience new things in our lives each day and may not succeed every single time. He himself said,” I am not the wise old fish.” This is him telling us he is not always perfect himself. We are all going to be going our own different ways in life. Everyone will be performing different tasks, but remember it is okay to make mistakes that is how we learn. It is very relatable to feelings and emotions these students are experiencing at this point in their lives. Which is important because I am sure this made them be more attentive and alert during this commencement, rather than dose off the whole time. I do think this will raise red flags on their minds about certain topics. This makes me ponder my life and how I want to live and be successful. I thought he did a great job presenting his speech, but at the same time, it is very obvious material. If we are not looking at the bigger picture in life after graduation; I think there is something wrong. Although, we may not all be getting married, having kids, and starting a family. I believe we all have an idea of how we want our life to play out. We all have some idea and are looking ahead to the future. It just seems stupid to me for him to stand up there and preach about something we all are already aware of. The whole commencement just seemed too obvious to me, but we can all take a lot from it as it relates to real life problems and situations. Overall, this was a great speech to give to this graduating class. Hopefully, it will make them look ahead in their lives and strive for
