Any rebellion has root causes. In Animal Farm, old major explicitly announces those causes when he attempts to foment animal rebellion. Man’s exploitation of the animals is the main cause of the animals’ rebellion. The animals suffer a lot in Mr. Jones’s farm. They all work hard to provide food and trade material for their owner, but Mr. Jones never treats them humanely. He gives them the amount of food that would keep them alive. In addition, the poor animals are slaughtered when they can no longer work in the farm. So, it is crystal clear that the farmer’s treatment reflected no appreciation for the animals’ long service in his favor. Thus, all of them should take part in their rebellion. Old major explains that all animals are equal. Stressing on the fact that they should all fix their attention on getting rid of the man. Such unity would guarantee the rebellion’s success. Since no one can defeat a united group, each and every animal plays a part in the rebellion. Pigs, horses, hens, ducklings, the raven, cows, sheep, pigeons, the donkey, the goat, and even rats participate in rebelling against man.
