Reflection Of The Giver By Lois Lowry
In Lois Lowry's award winning novel, The Giver, Jonas becomes the receiver of memories because of his ability to see beyond. In Jonas' community, emotions are nonexistent and regular things like color, animals, and music have been erased from citizens' memories. Jonas goes on a journey to find more about the history of the world and finds more about himself. He then leaves his "home" to save himself and everyone he ever knew. Jonas leaving the community benefitted Gabe because it saved his life, the community because it showed them emotions, and himself because it gave him an opportunity to love.
Jonas leaving the community benefitted Gabe, and saved his life in the process. Jonas and Gabe both had the ability to receive memories. Gabe, unfortunately, wasn't developing fast enough and would've been released, killed. Late at night, Jonas "kidnapped" him and left the community to save him. In the novel, Gabe's nurturer says, "It's bye bye to Gabe in the morning."(207) Leaving Sameness gave Gabriel the opportunity to grow up in

He was isolated in the world he was living in and it drove him crazy that he was the only one that could feel. Jonas needed to be able to love and experience joy all of the time. In the book it explains, " 'There could be love,' Jonas whispered."(162) Leaving gave him the chance to love and make new memories with Gabe. Jonas could break out of his shell and be free just as he had dreamed. Not only did leaving benefit all those around him, but also himself.

To conclude, Jonas' leaving helped Gabe, the community, and himself. The Giver showed how important feelings, emotions, and love are to a society's functioning. Although pain is never pleasant, it is necessary in order for humans to be empathetic, caring, and genuinely kind. Jonas was someone who knew this and wanted everyone to as well. His leaving made it possible for himself, and anyone he ever loved, to feel and to

Jonas’s plan is to leave at midnight and take his bike along with Gabe who is still living in his unit. He would write a note so no one would know he was gone right away and chase after him. The Giver movie showed Jonas leaving was unplanned. Jonas escaped to the Giver’s house and gets a map of the community and beyond from him. Jonas finds Gabe in the nurturing center and convinces Fiona to help him escape. There were many close calls in the movie when Jonas escaped yet almost none were in the book. Belonging is how we fit into this world being a member or part of a certain group or form, feeling as though you belong can be created by physical ownership, cultural connection, social group or belonging to a certain place. Not having these relationships can create a feeling of not belonging and emotion strain. Brett from “Raw” written by Scotty Monk in the beginning did not find his place in the world leading in down a terrible path that by the end helped him realise where he belonged. Billy from “The Simple Gift” written by Steven Herrick can relate to Brett as he too felt as though he had no meaning but by the end found his place in the world.…

In the beginning of the book The Simple Gift by Steven Herrick, Billy’s sense of belonging was limited by his dad, his school and everyone around him. This is shown by the way his dad never accepted him and always treated him badly. He always felt like he didn’t belong in his town as everyone was different to him, he didn’t like his teachers at his school or anyone else in it, the only place he felt like he belonged was the quiet, secluded area, known as Westfield Creek, where he would go to read books. That place enriched belonging as he felt like he had a place where he could be himself and read in peace but when billy couldn’t handle living in that town anymore because of his lack of belonging he left his home to find his place.…

For example, Jonas and Brian live with totally different communities, practices, and lifestyles. Jonas lives in a community where everyone is based on sameness with no pain, emotion, or differences. Jonas grows up knowing only what Chief Elder allows them to know and doesn’t have any real family members. Brian lives in Detroit, Michigan, with his mother Liz and his father Cole, with no boundaries of where to go or what to learn, unlike Jonas. In addition, another difference they have is who they live with and who they have to take care of. Jonas lives with his fake mother, father, lily, and Gabe who Jonas takes care of and shares memories with. Brian only lives with his mother because his father left when he was little to become a pitching coach in Japan, leaving Brian to take care of his mom and that’s it. In conclusion, they have differences that set them apart from each other even though they are so much alike.…

“Did you hear that? We made it. We did it.” Jonas said, telling Gabe and The Giver. He felt accomplished but not a hundred percent. There was something missing. In the simple gift, billy’s father shows that he’s reckless behaviour and his constant drinking has reflected on his connection between him and his son is violent, not caring, unloving or showing an act of compassion to him, the barrier between the both of them seems as if its unfixable. “As dad stood over me, and said, no more sport, no more forever.” Repetition is used to show how billy’s father is reinforcing that billy dose not have a choice. Billy shows his eagerness to escape and courage to leave, he sees any place to be better than his fathers. Billy makes up his mind to leave home and demonstrates that he had no sense of belonging there. In contrast with “she’s leaving home”, billy and his father share a similar sense of belonging in a familial group as the ‘girl’ and her parents, where the ‘girl’ feels as if she needs to get away, start a new life, without her parents, “we gave her everything money could buy” the mood and emotion in this reflects that she made a choice to leave, seeking a place else where. Belonging can provide one with hope and self confidence.…

The idea of belonging in the novel 'Of Mice and Men' by John Steinbeck, relates to the theory of 'attachment' in psychology. For most human beings, having a central place they can return to, ideally with loved ones or supportive friends present also, contributes towards their feelings of calm, relaxation and security. Such a place would ideally be one which provides safety, shelter, food, warmth, affection and earning capacity. Not all those elements are always present - sometimes it is enough to live in an RV or trailer park, as long as family or the other things are present. Some nomadic people are happy to pack up and take most things with them - as long as they have support they are happy. However, George and Lennie only have each other and sometimes that's even a liability - whatever 'attachments' they had in youth are gone and that leaves them adrift in a hostile, unpredictable world. That is why they yearn for 'centredness' or the security of a place of their own.…

If it is a mutual love, filled, with kindness and fairness, it would most definitely bring euphoria. However, if it is a one-sided, sorrowful love, one may feel what is called takotsubo cardiomyopathy, or "broken heart syndrome." Broken heart syndrome is feeling as if you are having a heart attack, because of stress-induced irregular heart patterns. Love can cause eternal happiness and at the same time, severe depression. However, impregnable love can be exceedingly comforting. This is pictured when Jonas is biking through the snow up the hill, and yearns to lie down and succumb to the cold beneath him. Yet his adoration for Gabriel keeps him going. In conclusion, Jonas was correct to have left the community, so everyone in his society could live freely with memories of happiness, joy, and most importantly,…
