Reflective Essay On Group Presentation
This is a reflective essay based on my experience working on poster group presentation about Indigenous people living with depression and anxiety, to assist me in the process of reflection I will be using Gibbs reflective model (Gibbs, 1998).
I was recently fortuned to have been part of a group that worked as a team for our poster presentation, to achieve some goal through working among a group can often be inspiring because many members have to efficiently agree and cooperate. For my group presentation, there are many areas for improvement because we are a group of four from different background and culture, also we have language barriers but we were able to work together. We had prepared the poster together and each person providing one part of the whole presentation, we had to

Also we did not make time to rehearse before our presentation day, just communicate through email and messages this is make me worried more. It has left me feeling very unconfident in my ability. During presentation I felt that the poster was not good enough and I was not fluent at some point and I spoke to fast sometimes. From this experience there are a number of things that I would do differently next time, I could work controlling my emotions, improving my language fluency, and paying more attentiveness to the structure of presentation. I would use the first group meeting to get to know the others in the group and to identify our strength and therefore our responsibilities. Our group could have done a better job of our oral presentation. We need to make compromise when we confronted with differences- different culture, different background and different perspective on the information with Indigenous people “Nurses respect the dignity, ethnicity, values, and beliefs of people receiving care and treatment, and of other colleagues”(Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia,

Through this group assignment, I really learned much. First, I realize that I should learn more about finance and accounting .when talking about the last part in presentation during discussion, I cannot participate in the debate, and even do not know what they said when comes some proper nouns. Although my major is logistics, it is good for me to learn more about other subject knowledge such as finance and management. Second is although we had discussion many times, we were inefficient and wasted much time. We supposed to have a target or task for each discussion, and leader need to coordinate the meeting. In addition, democracy does not work every time in small group, everyone has a different idea and wants to persuade others, which is the reason that a good leader is very important for a team, so that I should start to train leadership skills. Third is that unity and cooperation are essential to a good team. Team members need to work for…

By being an effective leader, one can use effective leadership skills to implement. Such skills such as promoting cohesion is one criteria needed in this scenario. I can incorporate cohesion by showing respect to other team members, and allow everyone to be active listeners. By showing respect to one another in a team, the members can reach the unaccomplished goal set. There are different personalities and diversities in a group, but as long as you can work together despite the diversities, attitude, behaviors, competition, the goal can be completed effectively. I enjoyed the team collaboration this week. I have so much from the videos and the team input and discussion. Effective communication is needed in all areas of teams. I know that working in team can be challenging, but always remember to put your best foot forward, and keep on moving towards the goal. Sometimes, teams may not perform in adequate time but be persistent and ask if you can be of any assistance in helping other team members. Unless, there is a leader assigned, there is not an “I” in teamwork. Working the team this week was productive and I have communication was open and to the point. Everyone discussed and posted about the scenarios on both videos as…

Also we could have introduced ourselves and our care profession at the start of the meeting and shook one another’s hand showing courtesy and politeness. Other ways which we could of improved it is by not having our coats on and so that we are more comfortable and can move about easily for use of good body language. Another way which we could have improved it in our group would be by sitting in more of a closed circle so that we can hear one another efficiently and can see each other clearly in order to see body language and facial expressions. This will help make communication effective and avoid misinterpretations so that no mistakes in the meeting are made. I feel that I could of improved the way that I acted with the group as I feel that I took a direct approach which made me out to be the main person/leader of the group who was in charge due to be speaking up and setting up the topic for discussion. By speaking up in the group with my opinions this may have made the others in the group shy and they may not feel as confident in expressing their opinions. Therefore I would improve this by making it all equal between one another so that others feel that they are on the same level and can speak up and say what they would like to…

Studying and working has been through a significant change since the early ages. Before teamwork was introduced, personal skill was the only attributes that employers or other people look for in a person. Now, they must look for teamwork, adaptability and communication. These aspects are important in any teamwork whether it is in the workforce or in schools similar to what Bolman suggest that ‘Much of the work in large organisations in now done in small groups or team. When those teams work badly, as they often do, they can block even the most talented individuals from realising their potential’ (Bolman et al, 1992); evidently, experiencing first hand the success, complications and failures of teamwork whilst collaborating for the presentation.…

To be an effective group, three conditions need to be present: “mutual trust among members, a sense of group identity (a feeling among members that they belong to a unique and worthwhile group), and a sense of group efficacy (the belief that the team can perform well and that group members are more effective working together than apart)” (Druskat and Wolff, 2001). In the first group meeting, we developed a better understanding of our group when discussing all the details about this group project. Our fabulous group name is “Fab 4” with an inspiring motto “One for all, all for one, everybody having fun”. Found that all of us were motivated and sophisticated, we decided to complete all tasks together since that’s the most efficient way for us. To meet our expectation of being a helpful team, we all agreed to stay open to any ideas that can assist the foundation. Having a clear orientation, we gained more confident and mutual trust in each other.…

In my opinion, the most important factor that aids a team to work effectively is to have an established goal that each member works toward. When each individual is aware of the direction of team, they can consistently contribute their ideas and insights to achieve that goal. Therefore, my primary objective in this course is to actively seek the best ways to achieve the goal at hand. Once a certain goal has been established, I need to remind myself and my team members of that same goal in an on-going basis; so that the team won’t diverge from the direction it must be headed. By continually mentioning the goal that was agreed-upon, it keeps the team moving together which is vital to success. Each member must know how far the team has developed their steps to achieving the goal; therefore it would be a real disadvantage when one member is behind. Also, the most fundamental attribute that must go with teamwork collaboration is team cohesiveness and a high level of commitment. Without working together and committing to one another, a team will most likely fail. Each member must trust one another and agree that each individual will give them the same level of dedication as one another. My goal is to give my team members all that I can offer and hopefully, learn as much as I can from them to enhance the results. In order to reach this goal, I have to actively listen to my team members and see what they have to offer. Teamwork is about giving what you have and learning what you…

In my current position, as a house supervisor, I work with five other nurses to provide 24 hour coverage within our facility. As a group, we all have varying degrees of experience and range in age from the youngest member, in her mid-20s, to our oldest member who is 64 years old. Working within this multigenerational group has led to some difficulties in communication and expectations among members as I will expand upon further.…

Depression is considered a health concern among indigenous people since it affects their wellbeing and emotional health. According to Gubhaju et al (2013) indigenous people are more prone to anxiety and depression than non-indigenous persons. Depression has been connected to various social determinants namely; discrimination, racism, financial constraints, poor education, colonization and poverty among others. For the poster presentation, in collaboration with my team members, I decided to place emphasis on this health concern since a large percentage of indigenous Australians suffer from this issue based on the above social determinants. For instance, a large percentage of indigenous households are unable to afford basic commodities due to…

My communication with the client’s was strong during the assessments as I was able to guide them on what I was doing. One thing that didn’t go so well for me was my presentation on stroke to the men at DOF. I was prepared for my part of the presentation as I had the notes I needed with me. I would know what I wanted to say, but I would hesitate and get nervous. What I would do in the future to change this situation, would be to calm myself down and enforce some confidence in myself; overall public speaking isn’t my best…
