Reflective Summary Assessment
That was another week went by at Sherwood Park Manor. As usual, I started my shift by listening to the morning report and then heading to my assign resident room. I started morning care by providing the care of my assigned resident, including taking her vital signs. After that I directed my resident to sit in the dining for breakfast meal. And once I was done, I went and helped another resident with morning care too, and at last bring him to the dining for breakfast. However, before I head to the dining to help with feeding the resident I checked the room to ensure that everyone was out. While I was checking I found a resident lying in bed and when I asked other personal support worker about her, I was told that she refused to get up for breakfast. I went to her any way to try to convince her to come for breakfast and finally she was able to get up and …show more content…
Once I was done I helped to take some resident to their room and locate a room for a resident who is trying to find her room. The new skill that I experienced this week was head injury assessment. It was definitely very useful to participate in that skill plus gaining more experience. One of the weaknesses I finds that I do not use a good body mechanic when caring for a resident which is extremely bad because you need to always have a good body mechanic to protect your back or any part of the body. Therefore, my plan for next week uses a good body mechanic when I do any kind of care. My shift also included help with feeding lunch meal and after that taking some resident back to their room for nap depending on their will. I also made some beds near the end of my shift as well as answering care bells and checking on residents from time to time. Some resident wanted to attend the music activities so I took some of the them to attend and enjoy music.I am looking forward to next week to learn an d experience new skills and well as gain my experience on my current

On 05/15/16 at approximately 2055 hours, while on patrol in the area of Nebraska Ave. N. and Columbus Dr. E., I observed two subjects standing at the front entrance of the Sunoco Convenience store located at 2317 Nebraska Ave. N. The black male subject was straddling a bicycle and the white female subject was standing next to him. The white female was holding a beverage in her left hand that was wrapped in a brown paper bag. Upon sight of my patrol vehicle, the female subject attempted to concealed the beverage on the left side of her body. As I continued to drive North on Nebraska Ave., the female subject continued to turn her body in order to conceal the beverage. A beverage wrapped in a brown paper bag is commonly used for the purchase of an alcoholic beverage.…

I felt sad for Mr. Gill, one of the main reasons being that I have personally been in a MVC myself which brought up the similar feelings, such as anxiety and chronic pain that Mr. Gill expressed. It felt like despite the differences in our age or situation, the pain he was expressing I could relate to directly. Another reason for feeling sadness for him was that he reminded me so much of my own father in appearance and nature. During the session, he referred to me as someone who is like his daughter and that he felt comfortable sharing information with me. I think this moment caused a shift in our therapeutic relationship, in which I felt even more inclined to show him respect and to provide encouragement on his development. The language barriers he faced in getting treatment made me feel angry towards the system. Unfortunately, MVC are common occurrences in our society thus, I imagined that the support systems would have been set in place for survivors to reduce the effects of physical and psychological harms.…

That was another week went by at the Brookville General Hospital. As usual, I started my shift by listening to the morning report and then heading to my assign resident room. I started with a complete physical assessment of my assignment to my assigned patient. I was assigned to two patients, but, my other patient refused my care and other nurses as well. There was nothing I could have done for her other than monitoring her, especially since she was aggressive and hit whenever approached her. Despite this, I now have an experience of dealing with something like that. Moreover, I was helping another patient in the same room Since my assigned patient refused my care. I got the chance to check one of the patient’s blood sugar using Accuchek.I…

I was on my third day of residential care placement; the staff had just started to take turns for their morning tea break so I took the time to catch up on my case study patient’s medical history in the nurses’ station. Within a few minutes the Manager of the rest home ran in to gather the blood pressure machine and bandages. She informed another student nurse and myself to “take these to Max’s (pseudonym) room NOW, while I call an ambulance”.…

My former English professor would always say “find a way 101”, whenever a student found themselves struggling in her class. At first I did not understand why she was so rude to her students, this was until after I graduated high school when I realized I was wrong. She was not rude, she was not mean, she was preparing her students for college level English classes. Reflecting on my past encounter with the toughest teacher at my former high school, I can say I feel prepared for a college level class. Although I may have taken the most rigorous class in high school, that does not mean I am expected to pass without falling short. However, I am certain that I am ready for the challenges that my professor will assign me in the fall.…

Starting term two clinical, we were assigned to Holy Family Hospital at the residential care unit. During the first week, we were assigned our resident which we would be providing care for the rest of the term. To maintain confidentiality, I will be referring to my assigned resident as Mrs. X. During the second day of clinical, we strictly observed the registered care assistant (RCA) providing care to our assigned resident. As we are in term two, we were focusing on our assigned resident’s morning routine which included, body bath, bowel care, transfers and ceiling lifts, and showering (if it was a shower day). During the shadowing days, I familiarized myself with the routine care for my assigned resident. As I observed the RCA, there were…

During my initial subjective assessment the patient was positioned in a high sitting position. During the subjective assessment the patient mentioned that she frequently felt dizzy when rotating her cervical spine suddenly. This finding alerted me to the fact that she may have vertebrobasilar insufficiency. I later made the decision to position the patient in side lying to enable me to auscultate her basal lobes and assess her basal expansion. I was concentrating very hard on listening to her air entry, which was made particularly difficult as the ward was extremely noisy at the time. Suddenly my clinical educator arrived unexpectedly to observe me. I continued with my assessment of the patient’s lower lobes and when I ‘d finished the assessment…

I received a 2.88 out of 3 on the Capstone Project. . In completing the Capstone Project I was able to demonstrate my comprehension of InTASC Standard Eight. Due to the fact that every student is different, it is crucial to identify a student’s individual needs and find strategies that would help this particular student. For the Capstone project, I was tasked with finding five need-based strategies to help an ELL with his reading. My student particularly struggled with vocabulary. I was able to use cognates as an aide to show him how English and Spanish have similar spelling and pronunciations. This worked well for him because he already had an extensive Spanish vocabulary that needed to be extended tot English. However, since no student is…

The first week lesson was focused on the historical development of the Advanced Practice Nursing (APN) role and evidence-based practice from the perspective of various philosophical and theoretical foundations. The resident is unable to get out of bed as she only has use of her upper half of her body so I took her breakfast upstairs (golden syrup porridge and a cup of tea which had to be drank through a straw) and fed her as well as having a one to one interaction with her. This was a positive experience for me and once I had finished I had to record everything that I had given her as every meal has to be recorded in her book. I felt good because the resident had a smile…
