long summer days reading huge video game programming books, or watching tutorials on YouTube, and then experimenting with everything to try and make my own programs. Fortunately for me, there were absolutely no ways I could get into a computer programming class at the age of 12. But I look at this inability of a teacher to have disciplined myself as an autodidact that could self-teach myself anything as long as I put my mind to it, which eventually grew to lots of different studies. Eventually, I caught the eye of my much older cousin who is also a programmer. He gave me the opportunity to take my first trip to New York through the summer of my Sophomore year in high school and taught me everything he could through an iPhone application. With resounding success I was able to create an application that was fully functioning and packed practically every gadget I could possibly use at the time. It had Facebook, Twitter, and Game Center integration and utilized a lot of different Apple provided kits. The experience aloud me to cross the barriers to a whole new level I never thought I could have been at. So this last summer, after proving myself as a worthy asset for a company, I secured a paid internship position for a 2 month period in the Saratoga Springs, New York office of Glyph Mobile LLC. It was great experience that gave me lots of needed practical knowledge for my very heavy ladened book filled brain. Not only that, it gave me a lot of experience working on a team with a deadline, as well creating code that was both functional and eloquently written so that others could easily read and make revisions when needed. I left an impression so much so, that I've also be completing some outsourced work for them while half a country away as I finishing out my Senior year in high school. Plus, like I said formerly, throughout my College career, I also plan on working with them as a kind of work study program. Through their generosity as an employer, I have learned so much in the forms of being a team player, practical knowledge I know that will be extremely valuable when I get the chance to start my own company, and ultimately improved my work as a coder. I have been doing art for a little over a year and a half, though even then I have been able to accumulate a few accolades for my long toilsome nights spent going back to the drawing board(Just a little bit of artist humor). I have been able to get my masterpieces into two separate exhibits. One at the B2 Café on Lone Pine and Battlefield here in Springfield, the other at the Library Center on S. Campbell in a competition, of which I took first prize in the 17 and under category against 20 or so other contestants. At the moment I only work mainly in graphite and charcoal photorealistic drawings, but I hope later to delve deep into painting and the graphical arts to further assist my career as an artist as well as aide my journey to entrepreneurship. I also would like to quickly highlight my accolades earned as a speaker in the performing arts for the Lighthouse Speech and Debate club in Willard through STOA, a nationwide forensics tournament loop. I competed for 3 years on both sides of the coin and landed 5 trophy place finishes. Three second place finishes, and two third place finishes in competitions averaging 30 to 40 constants respectively each. I have also been on several youth and missions trips to many locations with some really great organizations.
But most notably, this previous October I was given the privilege to be able to help the Nicaraguan people through a Springfield mission's program named Project HOPE. Through them we built housing, fed the truly neediest of their people, and played and cared for a lot of the little children as well as a large group of orphans. All around we tried to show these people the love of Christ, Christianity being a very important part of my life. The trip really gave me a love for the people there who are in some of the most unfortunate of circumstances and I'd very soon like to go back. A large part of the definition of what the word success means to me, is to be able to help organizations like Project HOPE and actually make a positive difference in the world both financially and in physical
presence. Finally, a great part of my personal statement should go to my gratitude towards my parents for all the time and financial burdens they have put themselves through to raise us three kids all while paying child support for a fourth half sister to us three. As a homeschool mom, my mom has invested everything emotionally, physically, and financially into us kids and I have nothing but the deepest gratefulness and love for her. My father, who works for the Springfield Fire Department, owns his own carpet cleaning business, and is a carpenter on the side, is perhaps the most diligent, tenacious, and working man that I've ever met. His ceaseless ability to trudge on is truly inspiring to myself. I have tremendous respect, admiration, and love for the man. It is his wish that one day his children might not have to work as hard as he has for this family to stay afloat. It is a wish I hope to fulfil plus some.
