Republican or Democrat The United States of America is a nation with a two party system. The two major parties in the United States are the Republicans and Democrats. These two parties play an important role in our government, they are a source of ideas for public policy, legally opposing each other, forcing compromise of ideas that are beneficial to the people to the of the United States of America. For example, Democrats believe in a non-Christian based country, when Republicans are based strictly off of faith. Our Democratic president who is now in office once said “So it's not surprising then that they get bitter, and they cling to guns or religion...” Republicans respect those who go to religion for their needs; Democrats however, don’t find it necessary. Democrats take a liberal approach, while Republicans take a conservative approach to ideas. Republicans and Democrats both have views on issues such as, abortion, same-sex marriage, and welfare. Over 1.3 million abortions are done yearly in the United States of America. Some Americans view abortion as a quick fix to a mistake; however, others view it as a torturous act. Republicans believe that every born and unborn child has the right to live; therefore, they are against abortion. Democrats on the other hand support women on abortion and believe women have the right to control their own bodies. Not only is a woman having an abortion a problem, but the organizations that support and provide them are considered a problem as well. For instance the organization Planned Parenthood is a major issue when the topic abortion is brought up among Republicans and Democrats. Planned Parenthood is an organization which provides abortions, birth control, the morning after pill, and scan for cancers and STDs (sexually transmitted disease). Democrats completely fund this organization along with many more similar clinics, where as Republicans made it their top priority for defunding Planned Parenthood. Republicans do
