Respect “is the feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements (Oxford Dictionary).” This definition can become clear when one learns that respect comes from the Latin respectus, meaning “regard, a looking back at, consider.” The word respect could also be derived from the Latin specere, which means to look at. As early as the 1580’s, a common definition of respect was used to hold someone in regard due to his personal worth or power (Online Etymology Dictionary-This definition… power). These can range from the moral basis of the said organization or civilization, to logistic and financial structure, to the motivation and views of the people in it, the policies of the leader or leaders, as well as their finesse and charisma, all the way to the traditions and customs that make the organization stand out uniquely and its people proud to be a part of it. In my life, I cherish the importance of respect. Respect is very important to me because I have been raised in a respectful environment. My parents have raised me to be respectful to everyone, no matter how they treat me. For my family, to respect each other is to take feelings, thoughts, needs, and preferences in to account when making decisions. We exhibit this through our daily family lives. I show respect at school for my peers and teachers. When someone is talking in class, I do not talk, when someone is giving a presentation, I am not on my phone, when the teacher is talking, I listen. My friends and I respect each other. We know what makes the other person mad, so we try our best to not do whatever makes the other person mad. We also respect each other when the other person is telling me a secret and I respect her enough to not tell anyone. I also try to respect myself. It’s important to respect oneself because if you can’t respect yourself, how can you respect anyone else? Respect is a…
