Response paper about the lecture During this half semester to studies about theory I have known about the kind of theory in Literature. There are at least nine kind of theory which I have done studied. The first theory is Russian Formalism which special to use for the language which tend to the text which attempted to discriminate systematically between art and non-art and one of the most famous dichotomies introduced by the mechanistic formalist is distinction between story (fabula) and plot (sjuzhet). My analysis about this theory is maybe it will be great if we also analyses about the background of the literary works too, not only with analyses the text. I think the background of the text of literary works also important to being analyses. The second theory is New Criticism, is the theory which have the similar think with Russian but at this theory we also analyses the text by moral values and cultures. I think it’s better than the last one before because this theory is not depend based on the text analysis but also include about moral and cultural value of literary works. The third theory is Structuralism, It has the same analysis with the theory before but it will be more batter than before because there is also analysis about the situation and condition. The Fourth is Existentialism; existence is the point for this theory. If you existed you will become a good person and the most important thing is how we can fight our existence to continue our life. The Fifth is Phenomenology, based on the name it is a theory which tend to phenomena by looking at the phenomena around us. The Sixth Marxism, like Karl Max says communism is between capitalism and socialism. Evenly people still didn’t know what is the mean of communism exactly, so they need to be known about the real communism to life their live at their country. The Seventh is Psychoanalysis; this theory is tending to the satisfaction. Satisfaction means happiness, and the

Diane Ackerman’s New York Times best seller, “The Zookeeper’s Wife”, takes place in Poland in the mid-to-late 1930’s, focusing on the main characters, Jan and Antonia Zabinski, and their Warsaw Zoo. Their zoo was a rescue center for orphaned animals, however, when Germany invaded Poland in 1939, they also invaded the zoo, taking some of the animals and killing the rest. When the Zabinski’s are left with an empty zoo, they choose to transform it into a hiding place for the Jews, whom the Nazi’s wanted dead. Jan would sneak people in from the Warsaw Ghetto, hiding them throughout the zoo and Antonia would care for them, as she did with her animals in the zoo. Although the capturing and killing of their zoo animals was unfortunate and heart-breaking,…

In Antonina’s List, an article published in 2007 for The New York Time’s Sunday book review, writer D. T. Max states, “For me, the more interesting story is Antonina’s. She was not, as her husband once called her, “a housewife,” but the alpha female in a unique menagerie. I would gladly read another book, perhaps a novel, based again on Antonina’s writings. She was special, and as the remaining members of her generation die off, a voice like hers should not be allowed to fade into the silence.”…

Animal testing is cruel and barbaric. In the article "A change of heart about animals" by Jeremy Rifkin, featured in the los Angeles Times, Rifkin discussed how scientists have discovered that animals are not far different from humans. The studies show that animals have similar emotions and reactions when experiencing such emotions in times of distress or fear. Exotic animals are often bought from zoos and/or raised to be hunted or killed in the Texas ranches. There are many controversies when it comes to the topic of the Zoo. The question to ask is if zoos are good or bad for the animals? And reading on in this essay with the main point you will be able to decide for your own will. Discuses in the rest of this essay will be the living conditions of animals, if they’re able to have families, how they are treated, and if they are able to reproduce. These animals suffered with poor health because they had a natural food diet that they’re weren’t used to. According to S. Mary P. Benbow, “Unsuitable feeding practices of captive animals’ still continue”, which is sad because people who don’t know about this goes to the zoo not knowing what goes on behind closed doors. “In 1992, Masha, an elephant in the Moscow Circus, died after being fed a diet of vegetables, meat, red wine, sugar, and a brew of vodka”, said Benbow in her article.…

Stampeding elephants rushing through verdant fields. Slithering snakes creeping along the Amazon floor. Gazelles grazing through the undisturbed prairie. SNAP, the feasting wolf captured the innocent gazelle as it devours it alive, then scrimmaging through the bones for any extra meat of the gazelle that is no more. Sadly, this is a true reality, and in zoos, animals are completely safe and don’t take the risk of being eaten alive each and every day. This world needs zoos for reasons such as: protection, conservation, education, and research.…

I, like many children, have been to zoos when I was younger. Upon visiting zoos, I have decided that zoos are very cruel to keep animals caged up, often in regions and climates very different from their natural habitat. For example, elephants travel for miles in packs, when in zoos there are only several elephants with only several acres to walk around.…

The novel The Zoo Keepers Wife, By Diane Ackerman ties together: stories, memories, and interviews centered on Antonia and Jan Zabinski and the Warsaw Jews that they saved during the Holocaust. One of the main characters Antonia played a tremendous role and definitely stood out in this novel. She took Warsaw’s Jews’ in, and provided them with a stable shelter to stay in during this war. I believe that it takes a brave person to house Jew’s especially during this time. Her mission was to preserve the natural bloodline of Germany, including the animals. She sis everything in her power to do that they closed their zoo and transformed it into a pig farm to feed the Germans. I believe that looking out for others and preserving history is overall the end-all goal. Antonia and Jan did just that; she helped others on the risk of her own life. In society today it is hard to even grasp that concept. To help others with such a large risk, Antonia has a self-giving heart and that as a society we need to strive to be more like that.…

The way we read and understand texts is not always effective. Stephen Greenblatt's article “Towards A Poetic of Culture” introduces a new type of literary analysis which he called New Historicism. New Historicism is a more objective way of analyzing texts from the view of the subaltern based on the concepts of Marxism and Poststructuralism. Marxist theory is what Carl Marx created to analyze everything wrong with capitalism and normal society to create an ideology of a new system of social structure that would bring equality to everyone. The Marxist analysis of Capitalism and other social systems can be used for the common good or for the opposite, which is why it is not always effective. Marxism can use the concept of Poststructuralism, which…
