Response To Intervention Reflection
After reading chapter ten in the SIOP book I learned that RTI (response to intervention) is a model used to identify at-risk learners early and to provide supportive services such as effective instruction and targeted interventions. Something I liked about the RTI model was it relies on the principle “all can learn”, I just liked that because with the model, teachers can spot out strugglers and assist right away with supportive so they can learn. RTI model looks at specific criteria such as performance inside the classroom, academic and behavioral. I know in my clinical practice I have a few students who struggle and right away the teacher was able to provide additional support such as using a microphone in the class, reading questions and …show more content…
One of the biggest problems is student who are English language learners, it’s sad to say but some teachers push them off because they are not up to “expectation” and some teachers feel the only way to get them to that expectation is the place them in special education for additional support because the teacher can’t. This isn’t true! English language learners or students who struggle with the English language can have additional support in the classroom. They can excel in a general classroom if the teacher is willing to support and strategically work with the student based on their needs. I know for me I use to be horrible at math, but now I great at it but it took me extra time to grasp the conceptual understandings. Not every student is at the same level of achievement, thus teachers need to address and think how am I going to teach to a variety of students. After reading chapter six in the Dove book I learned there are many writing strategies for English language learners. Some of these strategies include sequent flowcharts, story maps, paragraph frames, write aloud, and collaboration
