50th Anniversary Speech Hello everyone and thank you for joining me as I reminisce about a beautiful journey that began fifty years ago. It means so much that my family; friends, colleagues and students are here today to share memories with me. I have been teaching the third grade for fifty years and it has been a labour of love and a lot of sacrifice was involved. I would like to thank my family who have encouraged and supported me from the beginning of my career until this blessed day; I would also like to acknowledge the wonderful staff of this school that have made my teaching days memorable. I am here to say this is the end of this journey and it is difficult for me to make this retirement speech as I will be saying goodbye to everyone who has been part of my journey for fifty years. Over the years, I have worked with many wonderful people that have made a difference in my life. Time passes by like a shooting star passing the sky in just a blink of an eye; the last few years have been especially good for me. Through my years of teaching I have worked with kids from different backgrounds and kids with different beliefs. I have seen cases of bullying and I have helped my students with these problems. I enjoyed spending time with my grade three children, we read stories together and I have learnt a lot from them. At the start of my fifty years I was asked “why did you choose to be a teacher?”I answered that I like teaching and learning, I said being a teacher is a safe job and I like kids; my motive has still not changed. I am motivated by the successes I achieve with the kids and the joy I get from working with kids. This motivation helps me get out of bed with a smile on my face every morning knowing that I am going to a place where I find happiness. Once again, I would like to appreciate everyone present here today for their support over the years, most especially my family who have been my biggest inspirations. I would also like to thank the amazing staff of this school, the administration and everyone who has being part of my journey. I wish you all the same happiness I had being a teacher. I will be feeling sad knowing this school is no longer a place for me to spend my days.

My main reason for wanting to become a teacher is because I love children and I love working with them. Upon graduation from Boston College, I've had the opportunity of working in New York City public schools as a substitute teacher and at a privately owned nursery school in the Bronx as a part-time instructor. My experiences have been very rewarding thus far and have inspired me to want to continue along this path and seek further knowledge in the field. I can't even begin to describe the joyous feeling of knowing that I've touched the lives of the kids-- it is truly priceless. When kids pass tests, when kids say, "I get it," when kids come in and say, "Thanks. You're the best teacher I ever had," or "will we have you again" that means a lot. They make me laugh, they give me hugs, they cheer for my presence, they are observant, and most of them just need a little push. They give me nicknames, they miss me when I'm gone, they try so hard to do what I ask so much of the time. The most amazing feeling of all though is when the kids tell me they want to be just like me and teach just like me and are able to go in front of the class and teach others what I have just taught them. I have finally discovered what I am truly passionate about and am pursuing this passion by continuing my education so that I am able to fulfill my goal of being the best that anyone possible could be. This is what has driven me to want to go to Mercy and continue my education to become a teacher.…

I have chosen to become a teacher because I myself am a product of someone whom I consider to be the best teacher in the world. As a child in Virginia, I was inspired by a wonderful coach and teacher named Mr. Scott Nunnaly. Mr. Nunnaly taught me that any dream was possible. If I put my mind to accomplishing any goal I could make it happen. Mr. Nunnaly inspired me to be the best I could be at anything I wanted to be. Through my childhood…

I have always known that I wanted to become a teacher because many of my family members were teachers and ever since I can remember I was always the teacher when my siblings and I played school at the kitchen table. I have always had a passion to teach children and watch them gain knowledge and grow even when I was young. I went to a one room school house when I was in elementary and I was always willing to help the teacher with whatever she needed. Ever since then that is how I have always been. I love getting up in front of students and seeing their bright young faces and teaching them a lesson and answering their questions. It is a passion that I have always had.…

I want to be a teacher for several different reasons. I initially decided teaching was for me when I was in middle school. I had an amazing teacher that helped me through a lot. She made a huge impact on my life, and I knew then that I wanted to be able to do the same for other kids. I later went on to have children of my own, which gave me even more reason to become a teacher. And even with the economy the way it is today, there are actually a lot of opportunities for teaching given the wide variety of jobs a teaching degree can obtain. I also understand the responsibility that comes with teaching and that the job doesn’t end when you leave the classroom. That is why I respect the teaching field as much as I do. I know I still have a long way to go before I get to my teaching career but I feel it will all be worth it when I get there.…
