Rex Tillerson Secretary Of State
Recently, Rex Tillerson is chosen to be the Secretary of State by Donald Trump. This decision makes people wonder whether or not Rex is qualified for the job. In my opinion, I believe Rex Tillerson is fit to be the Secretary of State. Judging by his character, it is clear that he is passionate about his job. After earning a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering, he started working at Exxon and was determined to do everything he can to help the company become successful. Due to the fact Rex produced good results in his work, he receive promotions from time to time. He devoted himself to Exxon, which shows how much he loves his job. While it is true that Rex Tillerson is a great businessman, he has no political experience. As you know the Secretary
of State is responsible for managing foreign affairs, but his strong friendship with Putin creates a problem. When negotiating with Russia, people are afraid that he would make decisions that are not based on America’s interest. In the reading when President Barack Obama placed sanctions against Russia for invading Ukraine unexpectedly, Rex Tillerson opposed this idea. Since Rex Tillerson is confirmed to be the new Secretary of State, the first thing he might do is request the lifting of sanctions against Russia. His actions evidently shows he is doing this for himself and not for America.
Qualifications may be important, but so is ethics. When it comes to politics, ethics is important because you are representing the people in your country. The decisions you make either affects people in a good or bad way. For example, if a politician makes poor decisions our expectations of them would decrease, therefore the politician would lose the trust we have in them and vice versa. In other words, if a person does not have good ethics he/she is not reliable.
