Duality exists in all aspects of the world- in the light of the stars against the dark of the night sky or the vibrant spring colors and the desolation come winter. The dual nature of this world has added deep lines between right and wrong, but of course both will present themselves and both will always, in some way, shape, or form, affect one another. In the Devil in the White City the author, Erik Larson, not only informs the audience about a colossal architectural turning point for our nation, but he entices the reader into a state of jittery tension that is enforced by continuous amounts of alarming duality.…

Kidnapped for Christ was just supposed to be a documentary by Kate Logan that aimed to document the life of struggling teenagers sent to Escuela Caribe, a Christian boarding school located in the Dominican Republic. But as she went down into the condition of these people, what can be called part of the modern-day anawim, she found out more than what she needed. Her faith was shaken, and she found herself questioning not only God but also her faith, into the Christianity she believed in. She had anticipated positive effects on these teenagers, and while the school did elicit these reactions on some, she was unprepared for the emotional distress it gave not only to her but even to the subjects of her documentary.…

A documentary “Pray the Devil Back to Hell” is an hour and twelve minutes long and was released in 2008, directed by Gini Reticker. From the title, I assumed this film would be related to a peace and war, and it is a story about how Liberian women came together to end a bloody civil war and bring unimaginable peace to their country. When it comes to a debate of war, negotiation, and peace, people think men often dominate. Moreover, only one woman in the history won the Nobel Peace Prize until three women won it with fighting for women’s rights and helped make peace in a war in Liberia. One of them is Leymah Gbowee who is an activist and tells us a powerful and inspiring story of the Liberian women. She saw people suffering and their pain from the war, and at this moment she got baptized into the women’s movement. As she helped them, to sit and hold their hands, and to hug their children, she realized that she has the potential power to change their lives and the world.…

Religion is dangerous because it allows people who do not know everything, to think that they do. One could argue that this statement is blasphemy and inaccurate, though these individuals also believe in something that they cannot prove, so it is substantially arbitrary to even attempt to join a debate that knowingly is never-ending and inconclusive, or is it? In order to fully understand religion, one must determine why it exists or how it even was cultivated by mankind. The answer is quite simple really. It is innately imprinted in human beings to be curious, to seek explanations, to question…
