I believe that the use of logic, reason, and proof (logos) throughout Reich’s call to action is very well established and added to the credibility of his argument. For example, in 1978, the average American male worker was earning $48,000 while the top 1% would earn $390,000. Years later, in 2010, the same average American male worker earns $33,751 while the top 1% earns $1.1 million. Reich also goes into depth about how wages have not kept up with increasing inflation rates over the past few decades. Reich also adds supporting evidence for other factors such as taxes, household median income, and relative financial wages. By introducing factors and supporting evidence, it added to Reich’s main argument and solidified his claims. This strategy of introducing statistics is extremely effective as it provides real-world evidence that the wage inequality is an issue and not just something that Reich thinks is a problem. I believe that by watching the video, many college students, or even high school students, will be more engaged and determined to pursue education after high school in order to build a future towards financial stability for themselves. I think that by watching Reich’s argument, it will encourage students to take a stance against the wage inequality to ensure future economic equality. After watching the video, I know that I was definitely determined by Reich’s argument to pursue levels of higher education in order to set myself up for success in my future. Although I am not aiming for the top 1% economic status, I do want to live comfortably, free of debt, and free of any financial struggles.
