Murphy was a cop that was transferred to the Detroit team in the middle of a on going crime war with one of Detroit's largest drug and gun dealers Boddicker (Kurtwood Smith). Boddicker had already claimed the lives of many cops, but that didn't stop Alex from chasing him down and infiltrating his base in hopes of bringing him to justice. And the Robo Cop remake fist hit the big screens in 2014 and it too followed the story of Alex Murphy this time who was played by (Joel Kinnamen) and just like the first movie it was also set in the city of Detroit. The idea that this movie is based on is fantastic, the only problem is that while watching the movie you as the audience member are left with a lot of unanswered questions. The biggest of those questions would have to be where is Alex’s family and where did they go when they found out Alex was killed? Before Alex died, he was telling his partner about how his child would watch this super hero on tv spin his gun around and stick it back in his holster, and he would ask Alex “can you do that?” But that's it thats all you get when it comes to meeting his family even after he dies and comes back as rob cop you never get to physically meet the family. And that's where the robo cop remake shined. In that movie the family actually plays one of the most crucial roles in the entire movie. It’s his family that he is fighting for not just himself and that to me adds a whole other level of interesting to the movie. Another way that the remake out shined the original movie was with Samuel L. Jackson. Now Samuel L. Jackson didn't really play all that much of an important role in the movie, but what he did do was add a little comedic relief with his quick segments of rambling where he talked about how good robo cop was doing. But not all of the glory goes to the remake the original movie also shined in many different areas as well, one of those areas being the gruesomeness of the fight scenes.
The original movie used the idea of more is better and they weren't wrong in doing so. One of my favorite scenes from the original movie is when one of Boddickers henchmen drives his truck into a vat a toxic waste which ends up causing his skin to bubble up and fall off as he struggles to find someone to put him out of his misery. Another scene that I found super great, but also graphic was the scene where Alex killed Boddicker himself. The way the blood came shooting out of his neck showed that the director really wanted to put as much detail in graphics as possible. This however did not make it to the remade movie which focused more on the family and peoples perspective of the movie. Sure there were still a lot of great action and fighting scenes in this movie, but non were quite up to the same level as the original movie. So in the end looking at all of the information listed above it is safe to say that the 2014 Robo Cop lived up to the expectations set by the 1987 movie. Wether you look at the action and graphics of these two movies or the character build up, these two movies will not disappoint you. From there great and exciting action scenes to there inspirational and aw inspiring characters these two movies are full of exciting scenes and scenarios that will not disappoint. So now this leaves you with the question, would you buy that for a
dollar?
