properly and correctly.
People who rodeo goes through a very difficult process to make sure our animals are cared for and provide on whatever they need to perform their best. “They also get some health-care benefits: there's always a veterinarian in the arena to immobilize hurt animals and a vet working the holding pens.” There is always someone there to check the animal’s to make sure they are alright and ready for competition. Stock contractors keep a vet around at all times to help if they notice anything strange is wrong with the animal. “Now CFD officials want it known that the animals get the utmost care.” Officials over any rodeo want people to know how much they take care and check on the animals. They want people to know they get treated like the star of a show. “"Pampered," is a word that the Bob Budd uses to describe the care that the steer, horses, calves and bulls will get -- from water temperature to bug control to the type of feed to the quality of their …show more content…
pens.” Stock contractors spend a lot of money to keep their animals well cared for. The animals get treated like they are from royalty and get the up most attention. The stock contractors’ wanting the animals to compete the best, so they have to take proper care of them. The water temperature adjusts from what season they are in for example, if it summer they will make sure the water is cooler to help the animals cool and comfortable and they are not getting too hot. They would spray a thing called “fly spray” to keep flies off the animals from bothering them during the summer. They will feed the animals a certain type of feed to make sure they are feeling well and in their top performance attitude. These are all little things stock contractors do to help the animals. Stock contractor look at their animals like their kids and they want the best care they can get for them. “It is also an attack on the expertise and integrity of the veterinarians who inspect the animals before and after competition, and the Ministry for Primary Industries inspectors, animal welfare officers and SPCA inspectors who monitor compliance with the rules in the code.” There are rules stock contractors have to follow in order to even have a rodeo. One of stock contractors rules is that there is a vet on-site to look over and take care of animal hurt or about and after they perform. There are inspectors there to look over everything to make sure gates and panels are all safe and animals are taken care of properly. “We work very closely with organizations like the RSPCA to ensure the animals are treated well,” There organizations that come up with a safer and better way to take care of our animals and how to treat them better. “ Beutler said some people think rodeo contractors mistreat their animals, but that couldn't be further from the truth. His livelihood is dependent on the animals and their wellbeing.” Bringing animals to the rodeos and caring for them are peoples careers, so if they are not taken care of properly or feed correctly how much money they bring home depends on how good their animals competes that day. People want their animals at their top so they can get paid the most and it also looks good on them. If that animal is not taken care of people can lose everything because of it, so they don’t have any other option if they want to get paid. The care of these animals is not like feedings your everyday dog for cat. These animals had a serious diet, they have to eat. “Throughout the day, the rodeo animals, such as bulls, bucking broncos and roping steers, get water and hay.” Throughout the day you have to fill up the animals buckets full of water served times and make sure they all have hay to eat. They do not get fed once in the morning and once in the afternoon, it’s normally about 4 times a day you have to fill up buckets of water. Stock contractors can’t let your animals get thirsty and go hungry all day. When caring for these animals, cowboys almost have to put yourself in their situation, like would a person be hungry, or would a person be thirsty after you just ran or preform? Give them the same respect that you have if you were them. “Bennie Beutler and his crew wake up early in the morning to feed the about 500 animals they brought to the event. None of the men eat until all the animals have eaten.” Stock contractors have to put them in front of your own certainty first. If you’re hungry or thirsty then they are probably hungry and thirsty too. “They're let loose in the arena to run for a few minutes. Like any other elite athlete, it's about diet and exercise for these animals, Beutler said. And for the men who take care of them, it's all about experience.” They have to get out and stretch and run around to loosen up their body before the big show. They are fed special diets to build muscle and help them stay in shape. It would be hard for them to perform at their top level if they are not in shape. There has been a lot of people invest money in the protection and safety of these animals.
We people that rodeo and own these animals take a bunch of pride in them and want them to be at the top. “About $20,000 was spent this year to have better animal-friendly yards, fences, gates and chutes at southern rodeo grounds, he said. SPCA inspectors and vets had told Southland officials that they had a high standard of care for animals, Bekhuis said.” Money is a big part in their safety and protection of these animals. Sponsors help pay for new and safety gates to provide more protection for them and comfort for the animals. If we didn’t care for the animals or didn’t have a high standards for our animals we wouldn’t spend all this money or picked this as a career in life. “But the Associate Minister of Agriculture Meka Whaitiri has issued a warning that welfare measures must be adhered to, adding that ways to improve animal welfare would be explored.” They are always adding new way to improve on animal welfare to help us help our animals. "If our animals aren't treated correctly, our sport will die.” Without the animals in the sport of rodeo, rodeo wouldn’t be anything. This is how people make a living by working with these animals. Cowboys need the animals to make a living, so of course we’re going to take care of them with proper and the best care we can provide them because they mean everything in rodeo. Without the horses or cows it would just be a guy out there and one
wants to come watch a guy swing a rope around his head. You can't make a living doing that. Rodeo is just things that people have been doing for hundreds of years and they have made it a sport. The people in rodeo have made rules and regulations to help make sure people are taking care of the animals properly and respectably. “Nicole Paquette, a lawyer with Sacramento-based Born Free USA, said existing anti-abuse laws are hard to enforce in some cases because prosecutors must prove malicious intent.” These rules easily to be followed by in rodeo. “That bill passed on a 3 to 2 vote with Supervisors McHugh and Blanca Alvarado opposed. Both said they wanted a broader review of the county's options to prevent cruelty to animals.” Bills are passed to review the situation of how an animals is taken care of to prevent anything from happening to them. They have many options to pick from to prevent cruelty on any animal. “The ordinance that Supervisor Pete McHugh wanted county officials to explore also would have banned the use of "torturous devices" on wild, exotic or rodeo animals.” People would never use anything to hurt the animals or make them in an uncomfortable way. Using any type of torture device could have the stock contractor seriously fined or punished if he is caught using one. Torture devices are unacceptable in the rodeo industry. The rodeo and circus industry are in the same boat you could say. People are trying to get rid of both of them because they think it is cruelty. “They said the rodeo and circus industries treat animals well and are regulated by the state and by industry groups.” The animals get first class treatment in both of these industries. These regulations they have made are very helpful to the animals and helped the stock contractors to have a clear understanding what they are and mean. “County Counsel Ann Ravel told the supervisors that state law probably prohibits the county from banning circuses and rodeos outright.” Some county’s cannot ban rodeo because epee love the love that much. They see how the animals are treated correctly and how safe they are. They are ok with rodeo because of all the rules, laws, and regulations that are there for the animals. Many county’s have made that own laws and regulations for animals in rodeo. “That prompted Supervisor Ken Yeager to propose that the county explore a more limited ordinance that would reiterate state laws prohibiting animal cruelty -- such as tripping horses or using a calf's tail to bring it down. State law also requires a veterinarian on-site for the duration performances, Yeager said.” They want to go further with the laws and have more to better protect the animals. The state law that has a veterinarian on-site is to make sure nothing wrong happens or if anything happens they can go solve the problem. The veterinarians can notice things that the stock contractor can’t see that my be bothering the animal. “In the past five years, the number of injuries amounted to less than 1 percent. Last year, by CFD's count, seven out of 4,200 animals were hurt.” This is a very impressive number to have after that many animals coming through this facility and only have 7 injured. This just goes to show how much they care and protect their animals. “"I still couldn't tell you what happened (to Strawberry Fudge)," Budd said. "I've watched the video 100 times; I don't know what happened. It was a freak accident."” Accidents happens sometimes that no matter how much you try to prevent them from happening. If someone falls on the sidewalk its just an accident just like if an animal got hurt. We try to prevent these things from happening in rodeo. Rodeo is a everyday practice that is done on a ranch to take care of the animals. Them practices have been made into a sport to see who can do it the fastest and to protect the animal. We don’t the sport to take out angry on the animal or anything else like that. Stock contractors do this to keep the animals safety and protect. If there is a calf sick and you have to give him some medicine or he will die, you have no other option but to go out here an rope it and secure it to give it the medicine it needs to survive and be the healthiest it can be. Cowboys love horses and cows and we want the best for them stock contractor wouldn’t want to harm them in any way. Cowboys look at them like partners and helping the cowboy to win the rodeo, so cowboys want to help them in the best they can.
