Cara Fordyce of Kidder, Missouri, has not always dreamed about becoming a Rodeo Queen. “ Although I have rode horses and competed in rodeo my whole life, I didn’t join the rodeo queen world until I was 22. Anyone that knows me can attest to the fact that I am one of the least girly girls that you will meet! However my passion for the sport of rodeo and western way of life is much greater than my dislike of lipstick.” says Fordyce. Although modeling may not be Cara’s favorite part of the competition it did help her to get out of her comfort zone and showcase her confidence. Another part of the competition is public speaking. This could be a prepared speech or it may be an impromptu speech in which you have five minutes to prepare. Each speech lasts three minutes and can be on a variety of topics such as rodeo or what you love about the State of Missouri.
One of Cara’s favorite parts of the competition is Horsemanship. “It’s a lot more than hair and makeup, you also have to be able to know how to ride,” says Fordyce.
