Roe vs. Wade
1. Thesis * The Roe vs. Wade case in 1972 made abortion legal because of the acknowledgment of the 9th and 14th Amendment which gives “the right to privacy” to all citizens meaning a woman has the right to have an abortion. Due to the Feminist Revolution in the 1960’s this case would not have been recognized as much as it was, but because of the national publicity it received the pressures of the evolved society helped the results of this case. 2. Who is Jane Roe? * Parents get divorced at age 13 * Dropped out of high school * Get pregnant 3 times * Her last pregnancy is her infamous one * She ends up having the child and giving it up for adoption because trail

The case * Plaintiff perspective: A single pregnant woman who cannot pay for an abortion and has no way to access one * Defendant perspective: The life of the plaintiff was not threaten in any way so there was no need for an abortion 4. Inside the case * The coincidence of lawyers Ms.Weddington and Ms.Coffee finding Roe was perfect * They did not want a rape victim though because then the case turned into more of an ethical and violence type of case * They just so happened to be looking for this type of case to represent 5. Cont… * No state law is authorized to pass any law that would take any rights of a citizen away * Because the law is unconstitutional for all citizens 6. Ruling * The decision is broken down into three stages of a women’s pregnancy * 1st law cannot be involved in the decision * 2nd the law can intervene and the abortion can only be pursed for the sake of the women’s health * 3rd the law can forbid an abortion and it can only take action if the woman’s health is in danger 8. Victory * The judge ruled that the Texas abortion law was unfavorable for females * Also it is unconstitutional law
9. What if * If Mitt Romney was elected the abortion law could have been re-written illegal * Easily been down just appoint a pro-life member to the supreme court
10. P.O.V. * If the feminist movement did not take place Norma’s past would have haunted her * The progression of equality was the real back bone of the trial
11. Wrap Up * The right to an abortion is legal only if it follows the decisions rules * Lastly female empowerment movement prior to this case aided to the cause
