If someone is not willing to take on the responsibility, maybe they are not mature enough to be a good friend. In a scene where T.J. is trying to take some test answers, he gets caught and says that he was only looking for his cap. The Logan children know he is lying, so in order to defend himself, he states, “friends gotta trust each other, Stacy, cause ain’t nothin like a true friend” (pg. 1). 77). The 'Standard' is a 'Standard'. While this statement is true, T.J. uses it in the wrong way. It points out two responsibilities, though: that no one should ever lie to their friends, which will help build a good foundation of trust. Another responsibility that friends have is to always care for each other, no matter the situation. When T.J. makes some horrible mistakes, he ends up severely wounded. Even though he and Stacy are on difficult terms, he turns to Stacy, his only true friend, for help. T.J. manages to utter, “I’m in trouble”. I’m really in trouble” (p. 244). Stacy remains loyal and takes on his responsibilities of friendship well, even when they do not benefit him.
