Ron-Personal Narrative
When I was ten, I lived at home with my mom, younger brothers Allen and Marcus, and our two pit bulls Willie and Rosie on Crouse Street on the east side of Akron. I was best friends with my neighbor Ron. Ron was often the one that picked out what game or activity we were going to do, which often involved riding bikes throughout the neighborhood. Ron was very tall, pale, and a year older than me. It was a typical, Friday evening, and I was eager to leave school early so I could get my belongings from my locker. Ron’s mom took us home on Fridays and didn’t like for us to be late. I headed outside around the recess section of the school that is alongside a tree line where my school has an eight foot fence blocking it off. We leaned on the fence and talked about what we did at school until his mom came to pick us up. …show more content…
Before leaving the car Ron's mom told him to go inside and finish washing the dishes from the previous night. Ron knowing I dont have a bike told me, “You can ride one of my bikes while I'm inside.” While Ron was busy inside, I took it upon myself to go next door to my house, so I could get a early start on my homework, therefore giving me more time to play outside. After I finished, I changed clothes, and put on some basketball shorts, and some busted Jordans. I walked through my backyard next door and sneaked to the back porch, for his mother doesn't like anyone in their backyard due to his beagle Ram’s barking. I got to his pouch and grabbed his huffy bike from the back porch near

Annie Dillard is a Pulitzer Prize winning author for non fiction writing. Dillard wrote about an autobiographic event that occurred in her childhood titled “An American Childhood.” The premise of the story is when seven-year old Dillard and a friend were chased relentlessly by an adult after they had thrown a snowball at a passing car. While in the process of reading Annie Dillard’s “An American Childhood,” I was interrupted numerous times, therefore I had to read “An American Childhood,” several times before I could understand the meaning of her story. I cannot relate very well to her quote by she was terrified at the time and yet she asserts she has “seldom been happier since” (22).…

Throughout my entire life, I have found that hard work and dedication can help me achieve any goal that I set. I have overcome the separation and lack of decent parents, incarceration of my oldest brother, and many other events with the morals and skills that were taught to me by my grandparents (who are my legal guardians). Due to their influence and love, I have always put my best foot forward and looked at the world with optimism. Since the second grade, I have been in gifted/honor courses, exceeded through my classes, and have made many friends. My backbone does not consist of selfish desires or influences; it consists of my morals and the family and friends that I do have pushing me to change the world.…

It’s midnight and as I expected, a black Ford F-150 Truck with tinted windows pulls up to my house. I walk outside holding a backpack with my portable speakers and a baseball bat. However, I quickly change my mind and leave the baseball bat inside the house. I hop into the back seat of the truck and am greeted by four large burly kids. “What’s up Matt?” says Ben who is sitting in the drivers seat. With music blasting, Ben takes off the parking brake and presses his foot down onto the gas pedal. Soon we are heading down dark winding roads as we listen to music from Captain Murphy, which contributes to our mischievous mood. Finally we arrive.…

When I moved from the eastside to the westside of Dearborn in 2006, I felt distraught. I barely knew anyone that went to Bryant Middle School. I wanted to return home and talk to my friends that went to Woodworth Middle School, in East Dearborn. To comfort me with a pet, my brothers took me along with them to the Dearborn Animal Shelter. We combed through several cages containing cats; we saw an adorable three-legged cat, a beautiful calico cat, and some cute white kittens. We then came upon a cage containing a small white and black cat named Ring Leader. Ring Leader was 5 months old at the time. He was lightly shedding, climbing over the shelter worker, and feverishly looking around. Ring Leader seemed like an energetic and fun cat, so I chose…

It was two in the morning. I got out of bed, running on three hours of sleep. I ran downstairs after getting ready for a long bus ride. I saw my mom and grandpa waiting downstairs, as my grandpa was going on the trip with me. When at the school, teachers checked our bags, kind of like the airport. After this check, we were off (well, about an hour later). Now it was off on our new home for the next 12 hours. For the first three hours, everyone slept. It was boring and I will skip that. We then pulled over for our breakfast stop. When we stopped, the teachers passed out our boxes of bagels. We proceeded to get back on the road next, which was a rather long time. About four hours of driving through Ohio farms and Pennsylvania hills,…

I promised Stella I would get Ruby into a better place, but why does it matter, she just got here. Shouldn’t she have to die here just like all the rest of us. She's just a little elephant and with her, maybe we'll be able to get some visitors. If anyone should get out of here it's me, because I’ve been here the longest time not the little elephant Ruby. I feel that I’m better than everyone else and it even says it on the billboard, “Come see the one and only Ivan mighty silverback.” I haven't had people of my own kind in forever, yet she just had people of her own kind before she got here. So instead of keeping my promise to Stella I’m going to get myself into one of those zoos where I can have people of my own kind. Now what will I do to get myself into one of theses zoos? Will I use Ruby to help get me attention, or will I paint a picture of myself?…

Anything, but normal would describe my eldest son Donald, or as he prefers Donny or Don. His timing was impeccable when he came into this world two weeks early on opening deer hunting weekend. By the way, nothing stops an opener in a family of avid hunters, not even a baby. His dad was there to see him into the world for about a day. Back then, it was common practice for a 7-day hospital stay after a C-section, talk of postpartum blues, I cried the whole time.…

The summer following my sixth grade year was full of kick the can, capture the flag, ghost in the graveyard, and many more games played with the neighborhood kids. Some games got out of hand at times. As I tried to tag Conner to stop him from scoring in our little game of capture the ball, I seemed to forget I had a tree in the middle of my yard and I ran straight into it. Once during a competition of “America’s Got Talent” Logan mooned all of us, leaving us girls petrified. Then one hot summer night I was running the bases as we continued our game of whiffle ball while Trenton started to pee in the open onto our homemade bases made of rocks... he didn’t receive chocolate chip cookies with the rest of us that night. Out of all our eventful times the one I treasure most is when we set up our own little camp site. We found two tents and connected them both in my backyard. We slept outside, one tent for the boys and one for the girls. Eventually the boys got scared by a gunshot we heard in the distance so they joined us but were kept at a distance by my mother who kept an eye on us that night. Long games of truth or dare were…

During the summer before my sophomore year in high school my father had to relocate to Chicago for one year that gave us an opportunity to live there. We moved in August into a northern section of the city, Lincoln Park. Moving to Chicago was an exciting opportunity to live in a big city. Since I never lived in a big city, I was not really sure what to expect. The school where my brother and I were enrolled is Jones College Prep. In comparison to Lincoln Park, a residential area in the north section of Chicago, Jones College Prep was in the South Loop, a very busy downtown area of the City. Instead of mom driving us to school every day, we hopped on the Redline L-train and for 23 minutes each way travelled above and…

It wasn’t the first time I had felt that crisp breeze hit my face. I closed the door behind me hoping my parents wouldn’t hear it squeak as it sealed off my family room. I took a deep breath in letting the adrenaline run through me, and letting out the anxiety of getting caught. What would happen if they had? I have only been grounded once my whole life and that was when I was five years old. I’m not saying there wouldn’t be any repercussions but nothing more severe than a warning to be careful, but neither parent would say “You are forbidden to sneak out of this house.” I hoped my dogs hadn’t woken from their snoring slumber. I imagined Lincoln clamoring down the stairs, his collar jingling, to investigate the disturbance. It didn’t matter the consequences, my parents knew I was a responsible young adult. I heard Drew’s mustang coming down the street and I stepped off the old deck. The anticipation of getting away with this mischievous act was enough to propel me over the fence. Drew and Randall were waiting in the cul-de-sac, the car’s engine purring me from the side yard and into the backseat. “Will your parents wake up?” Drew asked, I replied with a shake of my head no, and he drove the speed limit back to his house. Even though it was just a mile down the road I was too scared to walk there in the dark by myself. I let the wind hit my face and the music hit my mind and enjoyed the presence of two guys who don’t care when I wear my glasses, men’s boxers, and look like a wreck.…

    A Happy Day Turned Bad

As I sat there, playing, the door suddenly banged open. My mom stood there anxiously with fear in her chocolaty eyes. I knew something tragic had occurred for she never came home early. She grabbed my forearms and pulled me up with a jolt and snatched a plastic bag from the corner and stuffed what little clothes and toys I had in it. My own brown eyes were filled with tears, but I didn’t let them fall. She dragged me along as she moved and on her way out, she shut the door with a thunderous bang. Who would have thought that that was the last day I would ever see that little one room garage house again.…
