Saki The Interlopers Analysis
In Saki’s story “The Interlopers” he surprised the readers with the ending. Saki was able to do this by using Ulrich and Georg reconciliation for the land and their families. Also by setting up the possibility of Ulrich and Georg being saved by their men and ultimately a happy ending , but the appearance of the wolves changed the reader's outlook on the resolution of the story.
First and foremost would be how Saki built up this possible , Ulrich and Georg compromise to be friends and end their families feud for the land. “ We have quarreled like devils all our lives over this stupid strip of forest. I’ve come to think we’ve been rather fools. Neighbor,if you will help me bury the the old quarrel, I will ask of you to be my friend, said Ulrich”pg.88.

In today’s society, the norm has become to contradict the norm. American culture focuses on the acceptance of the individual and acts of rebellion against the hierarchy. Yet when analyzing literature that takes place in another era, the audience cannot deny that there is a sense of conformity. People are never distinguished from being an outsider or insider, but instead they grow into a certain role. In the PBS documentary, “Minik: The Lost Eskimo”, explorer Robert Peary introduced the protagonist, Minik, to western culture which led to the American citizens to exclude him. In Chinua Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, Europeans arrive to Africa and colonize several tribes including the one that belongs to Okonkwo, the protagonist. The tribe ends up excluding Okonkwo, although he was trying to enforce similar ideals. Additionally, there is Meursault, from…

“Hello” said the young man. This man seemed to be very kind and considerate. “I’m Pluto; the king of the forest. May I ask you what your name is?” “P-Proserpina” I replied hesitantly. “Well then Proserpina, would you consider accompanying me to my castle?” I thought about his request for a moment. My mother did tell me to be careful and the fact that a complete stranger is asking me to go to his castle with is does seem questionable, but he seems like a nice man so I didn’t think the situation would turn sour. To him I said “I would love to accompany you to your castle. I just hope to be back sometime this evening.” “That won’t be an issue” said Pluto.…

We have quarreled like devils all our lives over this stupid strip of forest, where the trees can't even stand upright in a breath of wind. Lying here to-night thinking I've come to think we've been rather fools; there are better things in life than getting the better of a boundary dispute.
