I am very pleased to apply for the above post. I obtained a Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering from University of Manchester in 2010, with a distinction grade.
I am particularly interested in this position because of the experience I have in the cement industry. I worked as a process engineer at United Cement Company (A company jointly owned by Lafarge and Holcim). I started my career as a trainee in this company and this gave me an exciting opportunity of learning the basic operations in the cement manufacturing industry. After this, I joined the process department where I was able to put to practical use the process engineering knowledge I have gained while in school.
I spent the first three months at the vertical roller mill. I monitored the process parameters of the vertical roller mill (Raw mill) section and ensuring that the downtime of the mill is minimized, while meeting the daily production target. After this, I worked closely with the chief process engineer at the Kiln/cooler section of the plant addressing the process issues that could affect the smooth operation of the section. For instance, I was involved in addressing the issue of elevated output temperature of the clinker from the clinker cooler. I addressed the issue by taking measurement of the relevant process parameters of the kiln/cooler area and making appropriate recommendations for permanent solution.
Furthermore, I worked at the cement mill section of the plant (Ball Mill). I worked together with the production engineers to carry out periodic mill audits of the two ball mills. In addition to these, I was involved in conducting risk assessment of major works in the plant in line with the company’s safety and environmental standards.
I am very confident that with the skills and experience I have got, coupled with my strong background in chemical process engineering, I will be able to perform excellently in your company.
I would welcome any opportunity to speak with you
