His parents died when he was a young age. Nicholas was a kind, loving, giving and rich person. He cared about his town. He would help the poor and homeless people and would give a secret gift to children. Soon his name became Santa Clause. The name Santa Clause came from Sinter Klaas which was short for Sint Nicolaas, some people also called him Kris Kringle.

Santa Clause had a wish. He wished that he could give a toy to EVERY child in the world and could deliver it on Christmas day. To make this wish come true the elf would have to recruit to help him get a toy to every child in the world. But the problem was, how is he going to deliver it to every child. He was going to need some help. So he called his magical friends; "Dasher, Dancer, Prancer, Vixen, Comet, Cupid, Dunder, Blixmem and last but not least the head reindeer Rudolph with his nose so bright. The night before Christmas which was Christmas Eve, Santa got his big red suit on and got the reindeers in order and loaded the gift on "The Santa Sleid".

At the same time that Santa permeated magazines and overshadowed Christmas, other famous figures appeared to promote the holiday. In January 1939, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer was created by Robert May of Chicago. At this time, the United States still struggled to climb out of the Great Depression, and businesses scrambled to turn a profit in a floppy economy. May’s company, Montgomery Ward, commissioned him to write a quick Christmas-themed book that could cheaply and effectively win the hearts of children. With this thought in mind, May created a small book, only 89 couplets, that included borrowed lines from Clement Clarke Moore’s “A Visit from St. Nicholas” and theme’s from Hans Christian Andersen’s fairy tale “The Ugly Duckling”. Rudolph’s 32 page tale became a gimmick for children; a promotional gift awarded to children who visited any of the department’s 620 locations. The store gimmick worked; the department store handed out 2.4 million books in 1939 and 3.6 million in 1946. (Klein) With six million books indirectly promoting the department store, Christmas became a bigger brand in the market, at least for Montgomery Ward. The 32 page book has since been stripped and modified into a short film. Added characters in the film, like the Abominable Snowman and Hermy the Elf have altered the content of the children’s story and have added more labels for commercial markets in future years. These…

Like The United States, the people of Uruguay have a Santa Claus, but they call him Papa Noel. In Uruguay, they say Papa Noel’s associates deliver all the children’s presents at 12:00 am sharp. Santa Claus, here in The United States is said to deliver the presents all night long. Unlike parts of The United States that snow in December, the Uruguay people only know of a “Sweating Christmas.” They usually don’t encounter any snow in the Christmas season; it’s usually very hot since its summer time in the part of the hemisphere where Uruguay is located.…

Like many of his fellow Saints, St. Patrick's story didn't start out a happy one. St. Patrick was born in Roman Britain in the year 387 AD. Around the age of fourteen he was captured by Irish pirates during a raid and taken to Ireland as a slave to herd and tend the sheep. While Ireland was mainly Druids and pagans, St. Patrick turned to God and Catholicism instead. In his memoir, The Confession he wrote:…

Saint Athanasius was born in the city of Alexandria in the year 296. He was very intelligent growing up and studied Neo-Platonism. He came from a Christian family. He had a Christian brother, and later in his life, in one of his exiles, he hid in his father 's tomb. At the time he was a student, the influence of Origen was still felt in the traditions of the theological school of Alexandria. Saint Athanasius modified the philosophical thought of the School of Alexandria, he wrote a peice entitled On the Incarnation, affirming and explaining that Jesus was both God and Man. In about 319, when Athanasius was a deacon, a deacon named Arius began teaching that there was a time before God the Father had Jesus Christ when the latter did not exist. Athanasius responded that the Father 's begetting of the Son, was an eternal relationship between them, not an event that took place within time. Athanasius fought consistently against Arianism all his life. He accompanied bishop Alexander to the First Council of Nicaea in 325, which council produced the Nicene Creed and anathematized Arius and his followers. On May 9, 328, he succeeded Alexander as bishop of Alexandria. As a result of rises and falls in Arianism 's influence, he was banished from Alexandria only to be later restored on at least five separate occasions, perhaps as many as seven. Athanasius is also the first person to identify the same 27 books of the New Testament that are in use today.…
