Directions: Rewrite the following 20 sentences to get rid of dead wood, jargon ("hit list" words/phases), passive verbs, faulty syntax, misused words, misspelled words, grammar errors, & punctuation errors, in order to make each of the revised sentences concise (simple), clear, & correct—i.e., according 102E-specific terminology, "SCC" all 20 sentences so they have been "SCC'ed."
In this exercise, you must also get rid of instances of noun clutter (NC)—i.e., verbs that have been changed into nouns by adding suffixes such as -ion, -tion, -ment, -ent, -ance, -ence, -ancy, -ency, etc. Also, when necessary, you may add a "doer" (e.g., "Bob," "Jane," "We," "They," etc.) to passive sentences if the doer is missing in the original, in order to rephrase the sentence so it’s active.
Please submit a typed, hardcopy of your solution sentences for grading at the beginning of class on the posted due date. Type your solution sentences immediately underneath the originals on this assignment handout. Please also retain a softcopy of the completed document and place it in your SmartSite DropBox using the file name 102e_graded_exercise_SCC02_rev_c_<your email name>.doc—e.g., "102e_graded_exercise_SCC02_rev_c_bhenderson.doc."
