Schachter Two-Factor Theory
Ellie is a new student at B.F. Sskinner Highschool; she is determined to make new friends. She decides to attend a psychology club meeting, for the first time, and finds herself in a room with twenty strangers who seem to know one another pretty well. She plans to attend a few more of the club meetings before deciding to actually join it. Now in order for Ellie to make friends she should have some plans. One possibility for helping make friends would be mneumonic devices. A mnemonic device is a technique a person can use to help them improve their ability to remember something. In this case it could be remember names of the twenty strangers she just met. She could think up things that ryhme with the persons name or make up a story to remember them, possibly if she met some people names Lily, Patrick, and Tommy, she could think of something such as, Patricks picks tommy a lily flower for his birthday. This is a way for her to remember the people that she meets. Another way would be the Schachter two-factor theory: emotion is based on two factors: physiological arousal and cognitive label. One example would be when Ellie walks in a room. Normally when you are new and walk into a room wth more than twenty strangers your heart will race. With the …show more content…
Let us look at operant conditiong. Operant conditioning is a type of learning where behavior is controlled by consequences. In Ellie's case something eterrible could happen. When she got in the room, with all of the twenty strangers, they could have made fun of her upon seeing her. They could have laughed at the way she walked or that she tripped when she walked through the door, this would cause Ellie to stop coming to the meetings and no longer want to make friends there. The negative reinforcement in this would be the strangers making fun of her and the negative punishment would be her no longer returning to the
