Prior to the meeting, I was unaware of how to reach out to legislators to voice one’s opinion on an issue. Rep. Demicco made it clear that even though there were paid lobbyists, other residents could voice their opinions through scheduled meetings as well. In the meeting, we exchanged valuable information about issues within OT as well as increased the likelihood of Rep. Demicco’s supporting a bill addressing these issues, as he had stated. In addition, the meeting made it clear to me that, we as future occupational therapists will have to continually advocate for the profession through educating the public. While we spoke with the legislature, I realized, there are many people who know of occupational therapy, but they do not have clear knowledge about the services occupational therapists (OT) provide and what groups of benefit from OT
