School Dress Code

School rules keep students and teachers regulated. I think the one school rule that should be changed is the dress code, because it’s sexist, and it prevents students from showing self expression. Sexism is a huge problem in school. Girl’s are scolded , pulled out of class, and told to change because a simple shoulder is showing. On the other hand, when boys wear cut-off-tees with no sleeves, nothing happens. Boys are never pulled out of class because of their choice of clothing. Boys also wear ripped jeans to school at the time and do not get in trouble, but I can’t wear anything that shows my thigh The rule for girls is three inches above the knee nothing is allowed to show. Those who don’t want this rule to change think girls are distracting and boy won’t be able to handle themselves, but the girls are able to cotrol themselves fine around a boy with his skin showing. Just because the girls are dressed a certain way doesn’t mean all boys who can’t control how their hormones are
Sometimes in winter my head gets numb, but I’m not permitted to wear a beanie or hat because it’s apparently “gang related.” I’ve always had that told to me as an excuse. Someone I used to know was insecure about his head and constantly wore a beanie, and constantly was in trouble for it, and was forced to remove it. After a while, facility started taking the beanie away from him so he had to keep back-ups in his bookbag just in case. The dress code causes kids not to be able to show self expression. Transgender kids get bullied for wearing outfit that are “too girly” or “too manly.” It’s what they want to wear, but some teachers feel the need to dress code them if it doesn’t fit the socially accepted criteria. Teachers and staff will say that certain types of clothing are provocative and inappropriate, but those certain types of clothing should not be ridiculed and be told to
