We at Jamaica National are very happy to have you as our special guests today. We welcome you and this is our way of saying “thank you” for making our School Savers programme the success that it is.
We know many of you had to make the extra effort to save, especially when you see the many attractive things that could have easily captured your attention such as the toys advertised on Disney Channel or Nickelodeon, the latest computer games, or the exciting things for sale in the stores.
Your presence here today shows us that you recognize, even at your young age, how very, very important it is, to be disciplined savers. Savings is an extremely necessary aspect of most of the important transactions that you will do in the future. Most people selling something will not begin the transaction until you pay down a part of the purchase price and institutions that lend money to help you buy it will lend you only a part of the cost. Therefore, you will find that saving is one of the most important activities that will get you the important things you want and fulfill your dreams. This even includes the cost of higher education, so all of you who are here, are on the right track.
Parents, we extend a special welcome to you and thank you for your tremendous support, because we know that without it, our savings programme could not have been as successful as it has been this year. We know that with your encouragement, backed by those of the teachers at school, the children have been able to maintain the good habit of saving.
