Schafer Elem School identified the need to evaluate the reading curriculum for grades K-2 due to only 63% of students needs were met. This resulted in the decline of reading scores for students in the third grade. Across the board the school needs to focus on the reading curriculum and instruction as indicated in the SIP. The school is not making AYP in reading as compared to making the AYP in mathematics, clearly defining the need to focus on reading instruction. Schafer Elementary school would benefit from focusing on the reading aspect of instruction in all subject area to increase student achievement on standardized tests. Within the hiring process the administration needs to focus on those who are certified in ESOL education. Schafer Elementary would benefit from implement a character education program within the curriculum to fit the needs of students enrolled.
