bar does have good food and it is a healthier choice. Also most kids can't afford to eat school because $20 doesn't get you lunch all week. Another example of why Bellmont High School should rethink their lunches is because a lot of food gets wasted. According to www.wereternjournalism.com, nearly $4 million worth of food is thrown away everyday. This is a problem because the valuable money that not many schools have is being thrown away because kids don't like them. A lot of the food they serve doesn't taste good, and since we have to get a serving of fruit and vegetables and if you don't like it you throw it away. Because of that, many kids just don't eat it so most food doesn't get eaten. They also don't have other options for vegetables and fruit, so whatever they serve your stuck with it. Many times the vegetable is corn, green beans, or broccoli, but they don't have very much of a taste so people don't enjoy it. Something else is maybe Bellmont shouldn't work so much about how healthy the food is and make it so they are more enjoyable so more kids will eat lunch at school.
Many students say that the food isn't good, the vegetables have no flavor, the fries are mostly sweet potatoes which don't taste good, the buns for hamburgers are whole wheat, and there aren't really any desserts served. Maybe they could add some butter to the vegetables, and serve normal fries along with the sweet potato fries, and maybe serve little cups of ice cream or small pieces of cake or brownies, they could add or change some food items. A counter argument would be that many people say that serving healthy food with school lunches will help the obese students lose weight. First of all, the school can't control what students eat at home. Also they aren't helping them if they don't eat the food, if they don't like it they will more then likely throw it away. Another example is that there aren't a lot of obese kids at Bellmont High School, so why do they have to make the food
healthy. I understand that there are strict rules for schools to follow, but I think some of them are the school add themselves. I think Bellmont High School should rethink how they serve their school lunches, like changing the menu, or making it cheaper. Instead of having healthier food all the time maybe add some more enjoyable food. Also that will save money because food isn't being thrown away. The price should be brought down to maybe $2.25 instead of $2.55 so $20 lasts all week. You should contact the school board and see if they will hear you out.
