First, students are not buying these new, healthier lunches because they cannot enjoy them. The lunches from before and the lunches now are so drastically different from before they find it hard to eat. Whether because it’s because of the cooks not being able to make them work or it’s the food itself. These lunches are not being sold. Something must be done or majority of students will either eat home lunches or simply not eat at all, which is bad for their health and will hurt them.
Second, probably the biggest problem with these healthier lunches are failing are because of their taste. With the rules of these healthier foods nearly removing all sodium, salt, or sugar from these meals. It is hard for cooks to spice them properly in order to make food taste better. Probably often, which is a large problem in the idea of removing them completely in order to be healthier. It simply will not work the way they are planning it too, and students are going to go hungry and suffer from that.
Third, even if the lunches were at least edible there simply isn’t enough of it.
A “flagship” of the new plan, along with the reduction in sodium and high sugar sources, is the new two thousand calorie meal plan. Now, a large complication with this is that this two thousand calorie meal doesn’t change at all. Whether it be Elementary School or High School. A large high school who does various activities in school or after require many more in order to at least feel full enough to continue on. It’s hard to imagine how they could possibly function with so few calories compared to the amount they burn in a given day. This is simply unhealthy for many students. Whether or not they eat the food this “healthier” food it’s overall less healthy for the growth of
students.
In conclusion, the new foods found in school across America are actually causing more problems than the foods previously. This can because of ignorance and believing the world works perfectly or some other lack of knowledge. However, these foods are not helping. Movements against this food are already in place by people like Sarah Palin and Rush Limbaugh. Healthier foods should not cause students refusing to buy them, be borderline edible, and barely fill you.
