Many students push for open campus lunches for seniors or even juniors. With this they feel it is an opportunity to relive some stress and put the school out of their mind for a little while, as they enjoy good food with friends. Open Campus lunches can also prepare the high schoolers for college as it brings them to manage time wisely, but best of all it gives them the freedom they need, as well as some responsibility “Allowing students an open lunch would give them freedom, and they would be responsible for managing their time effectively”(Catherine Martin 2012). Another consideration to be made when thinking of switching to open campus is the reduction of staff needed to supervise the students in the lunchroom during the lunch. This frees up many teachers so they can prepare lessons, tests, pop quizzes, or whatever is needed to get every student the greatest education possible. Although there are many ways to increase the teachers ability, one of the biggest gains is spending more time with the material and pre-studying to make in class lessons or lectures run even smoother than ever before “When a teacher begins a new unit of study or project with students, she clarifies the purpose and learning goals, and provides explicit criteria on how students can be successful.
