Should High School Students have an Open Campus Lunch? Essay Example
Should High School Students have an Open Campus Lunch? High school students should have the option weather or not they can leave campus for lunch. Junior and Seniors are in a good position to leave school grounds on certain circumstances. Students must be aware that when they leave school grounds the have to be back in time for the next class. If any of the students are late for their next class they should have consequences. Showing that the staff still has authority. This will give students more responsibility allowing them to prove that they are responsible, not only to their teachers but to there parents also. As far as a healthy diet, what we eat during off-campus lunch can't be any worse than when we have the surprise meal on the school menu that looks like a combination of all the leftovers from the last week's lunches, smothered with melted cheese on top. Make off-campus lunch possible for upper class students. With two years of high school under our belts, we should be eligible to leave campus during appropriate times, like during lunch. Make off-campus lunch an incentive for under class students to achieve as upper class students. Set a grade-point average requirement, a no-tolerance truancy policy. Offer off-campus lunch to those with adult status. It establishes a level of trust most teenagers don’t get these days. This can either be very empowering and a positive addition to their day to day life, or it can backfire in your face and they abuse the trust and don’t accept the responsibility. Also, junior and seniors desperately need more independence. Independence is an important milestone for young generations. Not only would this new found freedom allow upper class students to eat where they want, instead of the not so tasty food that the school provides; but it would also encourage responsible social contact. Giving students the ability to eat lunch with any of their friends despite the lunch period. Don’t want to punish the whole student

The issue expressed in the article, “Should Lunch Be Longer”, written by Mackenzie Carro, states that lunch in numerous places needs to be prolonged. In addition, she argues that school schedules are very tight and that extending lunch may make it worse. Even though many students say that lunch should be longer, I definitely disagree. This argument has been in the air for countless years. Nevertheless, nobody has done much to change this.…

I believe that high schools should have open lunches. Students should be able to leave the school grounds and go to a fast food restaurant, or, if they choose should at least be able to go outside and eat. Students need to have a small break from school during the day, even if they are outside, they still can take their minds off of school work for a while. Students need to have fresh air and adequate sunlight. Fresh air and sunlight is a proven fact to help students in their studies and it also helps the students concentrate more. I understand that the school staff would not like the fact that the students would be able to leave campus without supervision. Are not the students in high school? Should we not have the responsibility to be able…

“So from eating out, we can also learn how to make wise choices.” This would make students prepared for college by enabling them to leave campus and eat what they want. This independence would get kids ready to face the real world. “It provides a semi-sheltered climate to allow students to grow and become responsible.” This would give teens the privilege of not being watched every second of the day. If students disobeyed the rules of when they should be back, they could take away the privilege or give punishment. Throughout high school students don’t have very many opportunities to show how independent they are any letting them leave for lunch would be a perfect way for teens to show teachers they can be trusted and can survive in the real world.I know a lot of high school students who are very shy and keep to themselves. With the ability to leave school during lunch, kids would become more outgoing because there would be many more chances for them to socialize and interact with the real world. “If students have the privilege of off-campus lunch, they will gain more responsibility and more experience on how the real world works.” All kids have a big part in the future of our job…

Many students push for open campus lunches for seniors or even juniors. With this they feel it is an opportunity to relive some stress and put the school out of their mind for a little while, as they enjoy good food with friends. Open Campus lunches can also prepare the high schoolers for college as it brings them to manage time wisely, but best of all it gives them the freedom they need, as well as some responsibility “Allowing students an open lunch would give them freedom, and they would be responsible for managing their time effectively”(Catherine Martin 2012). Almost all teenagers love the feeling of…

According to Change.org, 9 out of 10 students say they would eat something else besides lunch food if they had a choice. A variety of food choices outside of school will benefit a student's health. Likewise, teens need the option to go out and take a break from their 8 hour school day. According to a student on Change.org, “refreshing our minds before the next few classes would really help us focus more, being in a happier environment.” Students need a break from slaving in a desk all day, doing school work. Leaving school for lunch gives students some fresh air and time to relax their brain. Leaving school to go get lunch would help students with their physical and mental…

This could be everyday of the week or any two days of the week of their choice. Having off campus lunch would be a good idea because this the time where they could feel that the school can trust them to have off campus lunch. If something goes wrong or the students get out of hand the principal could cut them off from having the off campus lunch. The students would love to have off campus lunch because I know they probably get tired of the school lunch or getting tired of bringing their lunch. I think this would be a good idea for the schools to consider.…

At Cape Henlopen High school we should have the opportunity to earn more senior privileges in addition to leaving 5 minutes early at the end of the school day and being able to eat in the courtyard all-year round, except for the winter. Along with the two privileges already in place, I am proposing that seniors be able to leave campus during their lunch period for one semester and get lunch elsewhere. In order to do so, seniors would need to fill out a “Senior Off-Campus Pass” form and have it signed by their parents. However, if seniors abuse this privilege, I understand what I am proposing may be taken away. Along with the class of 2014, there are other classes that are filled with good standing individuals and deserve more senior privileges from the administration when they become seniors.…

Even though this opportunity presents students with feelings of independence, open campus lunch policy worsens the public 's traffic situations. Specifically, the vast number of students going out to lunch causes a wide range of traffic issues. Take the case of Charles, a responsible yet impatient senior from Esperanza High School. One day, after Charles finishes his meal at In-n '-Out, Charles realizes that he 's going to be late to his math class.…

Imagine sitting in class, miserable, for three hours waiting for lunch time. When it finally arrives, you’re overjoyed that you can now happily drink the iced coffee you had in your locker. Since coffee isn’t allowed, a teacher makes you throw it away. Your mood and your day are ruined, causing you to not care about schoolwork. After repeat offenses of breaking this rule, you decide you hate your school, leading you to skipping classes, littering, and vandalism. If schools can keep students happy, those problems would be avoided. Letting students drink what they want during lunch will help ensure their happiness.…

    My High School Years

One of the things that they need to change in high school is the way they handle the lunch periods. School is already hard on us because of all the homework we get and I don’t think is fair that they won’t allow us to pick our lunch period. We are all accustomed to eating at a certain time. The school would either give us lunch too early or too late. If they gave us lunch too early, we wouldn’t be hungry. In my case I would have breakfast during my study hall which was 3rd period, then I would have lunch which was 4rd period. I would have to force myself to eat or else I would be hungry the rest of the day. If we had lunch too late, we would not be able to concentrate in class because while we were working silently on our work we could hear our stomach growling, students that were sitting around us would just laugh. I remember that when that would happen to me I would start turning the pages of my book real fast so that the students around me couldn’t hear me. When I was in high school most of the students were mean and unfriendly. It was really hard to make friends, at least for me it was, and to be placed in a lunch period where you didn’t know anyone wasn’t easy. Our high school had a big cafeteria that could be divided into three smaller rooms, but they would never open up the walls. The reason for this was that there had been a huge fight once and they didn’t want any more confrontations. Each room had a name, they were named…
