Should Lunch Be Longer By Mackenzie Carro: Article Analysis
The issue expressed in the article, “Should Lunch Be Longer”, written by Mackenzie Carro, states that lunch in numerous places needs to be prolonged. In addition, she argues that school schedules are very tight and that extending lunch may make it worse. Even though many students say that lunch should be longer, I definitely disagree. This argument has been in the air for countless years. Nevertheless, nobody has done much to change this. This being the case, followed by many other reasons, I believe that extending the amount of time we already have for lunch is not necessary. One reason we do not need lunch to be made longer is that a lot of students are either tired after lunch, or energetic after lunch. Both result in not paying as much attention as they …show more content…
Being tired in class is one of the reasons students don’t pay attention and have grades below average. Another piece of evidence is that lunch is the time most incidents and drama happen. If there is more time added onto lunch, behavioral issues could possibly increase by a lot. If a lot of things happen during lunch, then what do you think would happen if lunch was extended? People getting involved in drama and things such as that, it could simply take a students’ mind off of school and what is going on. This could, without a doubt, bring down grades and have students miss crucial information that they might need for future assignments, and/or work. One last piece of evidence is that if we made lunch longer, it would affect the schedule. Class time would have to be altered along with lunch. Some students' parents/guardians might not be able to pick up their student on time, and they would have to find an alternative. While this might be the case, other parents/guardians might not be home on time if their student took the bus. A lot of parents/guardians are concerned about leaving their student’s home

School lunches are a big part of our schools. They feed us every day and make sure we are full. They feed us food, but they don't feed us very healthy food. There are a lot of disadvantages too. A disadvantage would be like having longer breaks will probably make some forget what they learned before the break. So if they have shorter breaks then the students could remember more of what they learned. Also if the teachers have less time going over review then when a test comes students may forget. Then if students keep recieving bad grades in the class then the principle may fire the teacher because they do not think he or she is teaching correctly.…

There are schools where the number of students is ridiculously high, causing overcrowding already. Lunch rooms are typically small, meaning that there would be people without anywhere to sit, and there would be people who couldn’t get their lunches before the end of the lunch period. Allowing kids to go off-campus for lunch will give more room to the students who decide to stay at school to eat. Also, it will help ensure that everyone is given a fair chance at getting something to eat for lunch, instead of having to spend the entire time waiting futilely in a seemingly endless…

They could make the school day longer, but I think that this break would leave the whole school refreshed for the rest of the day. According to the American Heart Association, students who were given an hour lunch and recess break improved in school versus their grades when they had a 30-minute lunch and recess break. For instance: One day I had was the table washer. I washed tables for 10 minutes, and when I finally got out to recess, I had about 5 minutes of play time. I was super depressed the rest of the day.…

High school juniors and seniors come to school the fact days a week, 7 hours a day. They are overworked, tired and hungry by the time 12 pm comes around. The last thing they want is to sit in a lunchroom. They’d rather use that time to leave the school and get a healthier lunch with their friends, teaching them the responsibility of being accountable for their actions. That is why juniors and seniors should have the option of leaving school during lunch, although others think they should remain at school during lunch.…

By letting students be themselves, students will come to class fully prepared with tons of energy to finish the day up in a good way. According to conectusfund.org “This means that open campus lunch would energize children from being on their own and allow them to return fully prepared to finish things up.” This is something that many school should take into consideration. Schools can’t make students act like they want them to. This is because if schools teach students how to act, they would star thinking differently, and are more likely to change in the long run.…

School is a place where students come to learn, right? Lunch is really supposed to be a "break" from work; although, many agree that there should be some form of education involved during that time. A common problem students have in high school (and younger of course) are manners. Manners aren't introduced during a lesson at all in school. Lunch is most definitely the perfect opportunity for them to be taught. Now, some may say "but aren't parents supposed to teach manners?" The answer is yes, but how can two (or one) parent(s) teach all the manners out there? Therefore, lunch should be an opportunity for learning.…

The class time will be longer which leads to even more planning which leads to even more teaching. That will lead to even more stress than a normal day of school. Adding an extra hour and a half to the school day also means more learning and knowledge to take in at once which can be atrocious for a…

People argue that open campus lunch might be a bad idea because students could get into trouble or come back late, but having open campus lunch seems to go fairly well at the schools that offer it. If students get in trouble or come back late, their open campus privileges could always be revoked, but if lunches were extended to 45 minutes or so for seniors, there shouldn’t be much of a problem of late arrivals among the students.…

It would allow for fewer tardies, fewer health problems, fewer students sneaking food into class, and less controversy about the topic. We need to push forth this proposal to Dr. Snyder so that he can hear our plea. He needs to understand what we go through day after day, and how little control we have over the subject. We need to appeal to him to fight back against the kids that bolt out of the High School and order something so complicated that it takes an hour to make. We need to fight back against the tardies given because the food took too long, which we have no control of. If we push this proposal, I believe our lunch will be more satisfactory and…

One of the many reasons students should be able to eat in class is due to that us students don’t have enough time to wake up earlier and cook our self a nice meal. We barely have enough time to get ready for school in the mornings. It is even harder, trying to eat breakfast, if a student has to ride the bus or walk everyday. All of the years that I’ve been attending school there have not been a year when teachers don’t emphasize how important eating breakfast is. We have heard multiple of times “the most important mean of the day is breakfast.” This is the main reason why we should be allowed to eat.…

I believe that making school days longer is a good method to fit elective classes in a student’s schedule. Also, having longer hours and more classes will make the students busy and help them to focus more in their schoolwork. In addition, to longer school hours the number of students getting involved in non-related school activity such as drugs, alcohol and early teenage pregnancy will decrease.…

A study in Canada at a university in Toronto showed that work efficiency can decrease if the day is broken up into uneven segments that differ on a large scale.
