Second Reflection: What I Learned In My Class
Second Reflective Writing
In my thoughts I believe my strengths in composition have stayed the same. For example, from the beginning of the semester to now in the mid-semester, I have been working hard to complete all my assignments. I have been doing every assignment given to me and finishing it on the instructed due date. In this class, you can see on my Midterm grades that I have been doing my work and turning in my assignments on time. I have done every assignment and pushed myself to be better to get the grade I want to achieve. Each time I have been given work, I have been increasing my knowledge and my grade. Being able to work hard on my assignments with me staying focused has helped me do better in the class and through college.
The difference now at mid-semester from the beginning of the semester is when writing essays on topics, I am not worried about not knowing them like I once was. For example, on the essays we have been given, I understand the topic fully and can complete what is asked of me to do. The essay that I can explain more of this on, is the extended definition essay. I knew exactly what I was going to write about with the topic we could choose from. We were also given steps to follow and I completed those. For example, on a few assignments that we have been given, I could have done better to improve my grade. There were simple errors and mistakes that I made on questions from quizzes that I missed, but I knew the answers to them. I would like to erase and do over some assignments because I know I can do better. I want my grade in this class to be higher than what it is now. If we were given a second chance to help increase our grade, I would be the first to do it. My grades are important to me because I want to have the best G.P.A. possible on my transcript at the end of

Throughout Mark Baker’s The Fiftieth Gate, understanding the past is represented as a continual and dynamic process. Baker gives a holistic representation of his parent’s experience of the Holocaust, demonstrating the complimentary relationship between history and memory. This notion is explored in the autobiographical book through the depiction of his parents’, and his own past. The bricolage style of the text aids in portraying the interplay between history and memory, enabling a more cohesive representation of the lasting repercussions of the Holocaust.…

Focusing in self- evaluation to improve the learning process, help me to set goals and be aware of my own mistakes. When the English Composition course started, I wanted to be able to express my thoughts and my ideas in an effective way. The process of writing for non-native speakers of English is kind of difficult. For me, the American style of writing is very narrow, and my style is completely different. I found myself having trouble sticking to a thesis, because I had so many ideas that I did not know how to organize, and that was the primary purpose of taking this course, to learn to make my writings more organized.…

My work from the beginning of STEP to now has drastically changed especially in my writing. I never enjoyed writing essays because I did not do well with writing under pressure. After completing my essay, I felt confident about what I produced. However ,when my essay was handed back, it was noted that I lacked vocabulary, figurative language and my sentence structure was poor. After being in class, I have improved on my essay writing skills. I used more vocabulary terms than I usually would in my essays, had better sentence structure, and completed the entire essay with time to spare to check it over. In addition I learned that i have been using seven deadly writing sins in my writing. Continuously writing and having my peers edit my work helped me eliminated those sins from my writing. When school starts again, I will be prepared to write a timed essay with the new skills I have attained.…
