I found this reading very interesting because I have hear over and over again that the best way to understand how someone parents, is to look at their own child. They pick up cues, actions, and so much more from just watching. When I was about 10, there was a girl who lived across the street from me who had a younger sister maybe 3. Her parents openly would say things like “Sh*t” and “damn” in front of the youngest. One day, she walked over to us and just said, “sh*t” and walked away. This is exactly what was found with the Bobo doll study. There they found that the kids how observe violent adults had a higher chance of mimicking them (Ballantyne, Hull, Licht, 2016, p. 205). This is just like the experiment because the youngest was mimicking observed behavior from her parents. Another behavior I have seen myself pick up was when went to college. Being from Colorado, you don’t hear “ma’am” and “sir” said a whole lot. When I moved to Texas for college, everyone down there said it. I felt so unbelievable rude not saying it. Without being told to, I found myself more and more saying it without putting any thought into
