When negative reinforcement happens right after a behavior, it is very successful, as one would make a strong association between the two. Negative reinforcement can intensify the behavior because it terminates the negative event.
Some examples of positive reinforcement would be to compliment a child on a job well done in the classroom. Another example of positive reinforcement would be when training your dog. Each time the dog sits, lies down, or stays on command, she gets a treat.
