Sectionalism is a division within a country based on regional beliefs and interests. In the early to mid 1800’s, sectionalism in America grew as slavery divided in the Nation. Slavery was ignored, compromised, and argues about but the states until the conflict drove our country in the Civil War. Although regional differences are not distinct these days, many issues are currently causing division among the states and people of our country. These issues lead to what our history class describes as “modern sectionalism.” One such issue is to care more about soccer in Iowa Falls. I know there already is a high school soccer team, but it is what happened when they went to state. So, lets start when Iowa Falls-Alden went to state last year. Usually for our local town’s high school teams going to state they will cancel school or give you an excused absence to attend. The thing is they never did for soccer. The school even tried to tell people what time we were allowed to leave school to go to the game. I left school early for every game they had at state, not because I wanted out of school, but because these guys were my role models and I looked up to them. Going to State was a huge deal that they worked so hard for. They made it to the point where they would play for third. I left the last day of school early not because I wanted to skip school. We obviously will gain our school even more respect if our soccer team beats everybody. Beside it is cheap all the team would need bought is goals which could be put on the track in the back of the school. The other thing would just be jerseys. No pads or basketball hoops. Players will buy the cleats and shin pads. The next thing I would like for the high school soccer team to be more respected. Like I said we made it to state and we never cancelled school. We were 3rd in the whole state. Out of all high school soccer teams in the state we were third. I think that deserves respect and needs to be
