Abstract
This Paper identifies the eight action items in R. Roosevelt Thomas Jr.’s Diversity Paradigm model. This paper will also identify any of these options which could be characterized as good management practices even when diversity is not an issue. The Diversity Paradigm’s Action Options include the application of minimize mixture diversity (MMD) and address diversity (AD). The eight options are, include/exclude, deny, Assimilate, suppress, isolate, tolerate, build relationships, and foster mutual adaptation. The options that surprise me are Tolerate, suppress, and Assimilate. The Tolerate option seems to be sending the message “get in where you fit in” and basically telling anyone who doesn’t like it to move on. The Suppress option is basically a form of denial, ignoring any diversity issues and not addressing diversity at all. The Assimilate option seems to be sending the message “this is your environment...take it or leave it”. Neither of these two options seem to be productive, but more like invitations for turmoil. The options that could be characterized as good management practices even when diversity is not an issue are The Build relationships option and the Foster mutual adaptation option.
