In Seeing Beyond Our Differences by Sheri White, White was able to learn a valuable lesson from her mother. She learned that “despite our differences in size, shape, and color, we humans are 99.9 percent the same” (White). Humans are guilty of only thinking about what is on the outside, but they should be thinking about what is on the inside.
White’s personal
struggles and experiences made me think of my own life. Since the first day of school I was not focused on what other kids looked like, but as I got older I found myself worrying about what other people think of me. My entire life I have been smaller and I wished I was taller and weighed a normal number because I felt like I needed to be like everyone else to fit in. I now realize that this should not something I am afraid of and I should accept myself. I may have had fears of my own about judging, but I am just as guilty as other people. Judging is one of the easiest things to do, but can hurt the most. After all these years I have learned to put myself in someone else’s shoes before being judgmental. Seeing Beyond Our Differences by Sheri White demonstrates the idea that we all are unique, but inside we are almost identical. Society needs to realize people should not live in fear because they are being themselves.
